I have a freind's computer that I told them I would look at. It is an Asus A7v-e mobo, Duron 750, 512mb pc100 memory, with a 20gb 5400rpm drive running Win Xp Pro. All ram slots are full. From what I can find the mobo will support a Tbird running at 1Ghz. She wants it to start up faster.

What should I upgrade first? 7200rpm drive? 1Ghz Athlon cpu?

Startups are determined by the CPU and RAM mostly. If you are looking to upgrade the RAM that would probably force an entire new upgrade since you would then need a new CPU, RAM and mobo.

So because of this I would focus on the CPU. According to Asus the highest CPU she can support is:

Duron 1300 (Model 7)(Morgan) 1.05. 1008

Fortunatly its quite cheap and is available for purchase here
