It will run, with all the bells and whistles, 30 FPS on a geforce 3.

It's hard to tell what will be out by then. Maybe GF4.......
I can't wait to see this game.........
Its going to use the Radeon line's 3rd Graphics pipline. Radeon users rejoyce!!
if it doesnt run perfectly on a geforce 3 then its a sad day in programing. seriously i still believe that if the code was better written then these games would all run faster with less processing power. the problem is companies see hardware manufacturers making unbelieveably fast cards so they write code that the hardware corrects.
take super nintendo for example. it was arround for probably 6 years. the hardware could not be updated so programers had to be more creative to fully utilize what was there.
im probably one of the few who thinks this way but i believe even geforce 2's potential has not been tapped.
nvidia loves it too since everytime something like this comes out people have to spend $400 to buy a new graphics card.
now that i think about it xbox might be a good thing since it will limit the hardware resources that computer game manufacturers develop for. maybe people will start utilizing better programing since the xbox wount be upgradable.
my 1.5 cents

All I can say is that it friggin BETTER not use the Quake 3 engine! OOHHHH I'm gonna be *****ed if it does!
When I downloaded the Return to Castle Wolfenstien demo, I was expecting to be wowed till my tonge fell off from drying up, being outside my mouth so long.
I was deeply angered that they're using the Q3 engine. That game deserves so much better.
If Doom 3 uses the Q3 Engine, I'm going to personally hold 100,000 people at gunpoint to make the sign a pettition to make id develop a new engine.

From what I've read it is a whole new technology. Watch the demos and you will see it is completky different. And it is designed for the GF3 card to utilize it's full potential. It's not supposed to be a screaming high FPS game.
But wolfenstein was pretty sweet, you must admit, even if it was on a cliched/passe engine.

I tried the Dl multiplayer version. Not sure what I thought of it at all. Seemed a little slow. Plus some movements that I need to learn. Is there a single player demo version?

I can't even run the MP wolfenstein at all it lags a the screen I guess I'll have to get off this 533 and back on my 633 and make it scream again.

I know for a fact that is uses a VERY VERY modified version of the Quake 3 engine. So modified, in fact, unless you're a coder, you probably wouldn't even realize it.
And just what the hell is wrong w/ the Quake 3 engine!? Its one of the best engines in gaming, imho. There have been some VERY successful games made with that engine (Quake 3 (duh) American McGee's Alice, Team Arena, and even though its a mod, Zdoom. Just to name a few) or something very very similar to it. In fact, if it wasn't for the Quake engine, many of the games that you play today and enjoy would never be made (because, when you think about it, almost all games use a variation of the Quake 3 Engine). So pay proper respects to the engine that was the turningpoint in advanced gaming. ALL HAIL THE Q3 ENGINE!! :)

That's just the point. There are so many games using, or going to use, the Q3 engine, it's no longer awe inspiring. Sure there are some great utilizations of it, but the whole engine has a very cartoony feel. It feels... indirect. I can't really describe it. All I know is that other engines, like Unreal and Half Life, feel more realistic. More direct. Less cartoony.

Hey PhLuBB, how's the recoil on your DE? The .50 has a rather large chunk of lead.

some of you need to do your homework! first of all HL is the Quake 2 engine just modified. and if any game looks cartoony it is Unreal and UT, just look at the textures lighting looks very plasticy like a cartoon. If any engine lately deservers credit it's the maxFX engine in MAX PAYNE. The textures and lighting in that game is more detailed than any game I have to date. I can tell in my framerate too, My OC'D gefore2 ultra and P3700E @ 1 GIG still only pull of 30 FPS max with all options at 1180 res. Quake 3 will give me 80 FPS under the same conditions. given MP is a 3rd person non deathmatch game and runs just fine and looks gorgeous...finally my money is being justified. The Quake engine and ID deserve alot of credit for everything they have presented so far and for a 2 year old engine that is still churning out good looking games (RTCW) you have to be impressed. Every Quake engine 1,2,3 was basically a modified version of it's predecessor but also was advanced enough to be considered a whole new engine. Look at Unreal and UT, whole "new" engine but I wouldn't say there was a major improvement visually. They did make some net code improvements but the visuals were almost the same. Sorry to post so long but you gotta do your homework unless you were like me and remember the everything from back then.

Glad to have someone agree. The quake engines still rock . This new Doom3 is supposedly to be the one to put all the others to bed. Check out the lighting effects on the site I posted. This has got to be the most realistic game to hit the planet. I for one can't wait to get my hands on it.........

I sprained my wrist the first time I fired it, because I didnt expect THAT much recoil (It's a big, heavy gun, makes you think recoil would be lessened from the weight).
I don't fire it but on special occations, because it's not safe (As safe as a gun could be. It's not really that fun, for that matter). It stays in it's own safe, inside my gun safe.
However, to get the engine of Doom 3 changed, I'd gladly go out and buy some rounds.

return to castle wolfenstein, i run 70 to 90 fps
lots of action going on like bombs and gun fire and such drops to 50 fps
but evertying over 30 fps you dont notice, i used to run action quake 2 at 15 fps so i could get bearable ping on the game, i was on 56k at the time and well sniping with a high ping and being good is really something to be proud about, then i got cable modem and it took me a long time to adjust to having such a lower ping, fell off a lot of buildings.

Ok, I gotta clear up some misconceptions here...I was at QuakeCon, I saw it running, rendered in real time, on an Athlon 1.4 and an OEM GeForce 3, and my god, you have never seen anything like this. Think Max Payne looked realistic? That's because it was...all textures in MP are photographs. Anyway, about the Doom 3 engine, that thing is simply incredible. The entire audience watching it was spellbound and silent the entire time, until the end when everybody cheered it's brilliance. The lighting/shadow effects are inexplicable, every part of the environment is lit, and the moving lights/shadows are awesome. Don't compare this to the Q3 engine, this is to the Q3 engine what the Q3 engine was to the Q1 engine. Seriously.

well when that game comes out, i am building a system to run the game, i wish they would release some kind of trailer for the game , instead of video taping the screen like that though, it still looked just plain awesome.
