I know the P-4 socket 478 configuration is new, but does anyone know about good coolers yet? Looks like Thermaltake has a Volcano model out, but I was not all that impressed it. Vantec has a GSN 7015 cooler out that is inexpensive, sort of looks like a GlobalWin FOP heatsink, and appears that the wimpy 70mm fan can be replaced with a powerful 80mm fan, just like I did with my FOP heatsink I'm currently using on my P-III. What are some other P-4 socket 478 CPU cooler options?

There is not a lot out for S478 yet batboy. I think a custom made waterblock would serve you best though ;)

I've thought a lot about water cooling. Lots of advantages when it comes to overclocking. Don't want to spend the extra cash on a custom block. I'll wait until Danger Den has a nice block in their production lineup before I decide for sure. Why not water cool the GPU and the northbridge chip too. Now that would be a really "cool" setup.

For now, I think a cheap, but effective air cooler will get me by, at least long enough until I pay off the credit card bill resulting from this next round of buying upgrade components. Actually, I'm hearing favorable overclocking results just using the lapped retail P-4 heatsink, Arctic Silver, and then swapping in a bigger, better fan. Might just try that at first and see what the CPU load temps look like.

On second thought, after doing more research, I'm finding out the Willimette P-4 can get a little hot, similar to the 1.3 gig Athlon. I'd better budget for a good CPU cooler right off the "bat" hehehe.

Honestly BatBoy, I don't think you will find any high-performance for the s478 for some time. Maybe send the guys at swiftech an E-mail and see if they have something in there line-up that will work . . . .

I won't be ordering the P-4 CPU and motherboard for at least a couple more weeks. Hopefully prices will drop a bit more. If there still is a lack of 478 coolers at that time, then I'm going to try that Vantec heatsink, lap it, use Arctic Silver, and try some different fans.
