hey guys. i know parts for macs like hard drives, ram, cd/dvd drives are pretty interchangeable, but now ive got a G3 wallstreet comming my way, 300mhz, 96mbram, 6gb hdd, mac os9.2....or so they think, my old teacher has given me her tower G3, and it was twice as powerful as she said. she used the g3 lappy CONSTNATLY for work even, and she does graphic design. but now she has a dell *ew* so i get the G3.

i dont see why a regular laptop HDD wont work in the g3 wallstreet..is it a problem of form factor or something?

i plan on upgrading to about 20 or 40 gigs, upgarding the CPU to one of those 500mhz G4 cards, and shooting the ram to atleast 256, so i can have osx/os9.

I know you linux guys are gonna attack me for not putting linux on there...but i do graphical work too, and i ahve linux on a few of my PCs at home, i just cant spare the PPC architecture cuz i dont have a dozen old macs like i do PCs.

I don't think the cpu upgrade cards work in the laptops. I also believe that the laptops use notebook hard drives, so you'll have to seek out one of those. They've been selling like hotcakes recently due to a LOT of people replacing the 5400rpm notebook drive in the mac mini with a 7200rpm.

the upgrade cards for it do work from what i hear, one requires the old HDD though to copy the bios. ive heard people using IBM 4200rpm drives, but i guess it causes instability alot of times, but it can be fixed with a little metal plate.

thanks for the info..ill see what works
