Hey there
I just recently purchased a 9800pro for my new system (which isn't even done yet) and it's flashed to XT. The primary game i'll be playing is CS:S. For some reason I keep bumming that i downgraded a little too much (went from a 6800GT to a 6600GT to a now 9800pro). IDK, I want reassurance that a 9800pro(xt) is good enough for CS:S. I will be playing on 800x600. I don't really care about benchmarks anymore, just CS:S performance.
Thanks!

i used a 9800pro on it for a long time and its great
u may even try using differant DX levels with the -dxlevel command line
it wouls look like -dxlevel 90 for DX 9 and -dxlevel 70 for DX 7 or 80 or 81
every little bit helps

I dont think you will have a problem playing cs:source with high framerate

May I ask why on Earth you are playing at 800*600? Your card will be perfectly fine. I run 1024*768 all maxed out (including AA/AF) on my 9600xt and it's fine...
Figure I should ask here instead of starting a new thread. I have a question regarding settings to run my 9800pro to get the best out of it.
My system specs are in my sig. Could someone tell me what are good settings to run my 9800pro to play CS:S awesome? By settings I'm talking about the settings when where you set the OpenGL or Direct3D preferences, all that AA/2x4x stuff.
I currently run it at 1024*768 but I haven't messed with these settings. Thanks for any help.

I normally play at 1024x768, i changed my settings to give him an idea of what framerate to expect.(if the comment wasnt directed toward me please just ignore me)

If you want to use AA/AF use the in game options. They run faster than the control panel settings. Cant really tell you what settings to use, best bet is to try to find the highest settings that play the game they way you want it to.
I run at 800x600, VSync on, Shadow Details high, everything else low. I couldn't run 1024x768 without getting noticable fps drops. That was a while ago though, I have new drivers and the game has been patched many times. Maybe its time to try higher settings again.

Lots of reasons
1. 17 inch monitor, so 1024 is kinda big
2. 100hz refresh rate
3. easier to aim
I could go on :)
Thanks for replies, I guess it won't be as bad as I thought.
