Alright...In my Dell system....I reformatted....installed xp again, and now it wont show my 2nd hard drive in my computer...it is recognized in bios, and in device manager, but will not show up in my computer or explorer. I basically just have back-up stuff on it and there is no OS on it.
Whats wrong....My primary is the master...and this drive is the slave off of my primary
Administrative tools -> Computer management -> Disk management
Is it listed in Disk management?

it is listed in disk management...however it is not assigning it a volume letter...it is just blank...whereas my other hard drive(which my os is on) is labeled C

when you right click can you "initialize" it? does it say "unallocated space?"

Do you remember if it was assigned the letter :d? IF so your new MBR has issued that letter to an optical drive.Go back to disk management and click on the optical with the letter :d and click to change drive letter and path, assign the next available letter(If you have two opticals and you are used to a specific letter for each then change them both to another available letter and after assigning :d to your IDE chang them back the way they were). Now you must reboot so that d: will be available for the IDE.IT may detect new hardware and assign it the letter on it's own.If not go back to Disk management and assign it there. When you reboot again it will rebuild the MBR including the new drive. All your data should still be intact.
