Printer trouble with XP

My boss is having some trouble with getting his printer to talk to his computer. He just bought the printer and was installing it, and kept getting install errors. He uninstalled SP2, and reinstalled and the printer ran just fine. One problem.....the printer and the computer aren't communicating correctly now, and now his print spooler is gone somehow. He's tried reinstalling SP2 again, and he's tried to uninstall SP1, but his puter came with SP1 and it won't let him uninstall. He tried doing an install repair with his disc, but it didn't fix the spoolers. Any help is appreciated.
