View Full Version : Having a hard time Choosing!!!
I having a hard time choosing which video card to buy. I have so many cards to choose from. I have about $100. My problems are ati or nvidia. I have used Xpert 2000, Rage Pro Turbo, Xpert 128, Tnt1, Tnt 2. I want to get into the future a little bit. Some times i hear the Radeon 32 MB is faster than a Geforce and sometimes not. I don't know which one to trust.
Bottom Line is that i want a fast, crisp and clear video card.
Ati is clear but not that fast, Geforce is Fast and not clear. Kyro II has problems with the drivers so i'm not intrested in that.
Advice on which one to choose? Ati or Nvidia!!

Ati Radeon 32mb DDR , its like 70 bucks in some places.
It's definately fast enough don't worry about that, unless your thinking of a GF2 Ultra then I'd recommend the Radeon.

IMHO I would save your $$$ for the new Radeon, beat the GF3 in almost all tests :D

IMO it depends on what you're doing, if you're doing minor video editing and the like then i'd suggest an ati but if you're leaning more to gaming, then i'd suggest a geforce.

I HIGHLY recommend ATI Radeon!
I am gonna to get a ATI radeon (if I have money) soon!
Well...from my sign you should know which gfx card am I using now...! Well ATI Radeon seems to have more gfx technology than GF2 but GF's aim is 3D....
Well I recommend ATI
but I recommend GF2Pro too!

it really depends on what you do with the card
video editing or gaming?
if video editing then u will be better off with ATI
if gaming then u will be better of with nVidia
if you do both then still get teh ATI

I have been researching this same subject too and here is what I have seen. Most of this is watered down from a long review at www.tomshardware.com (http://www.tomshardware.com). For the full, in depth scoop, I'd suggest reading the whole review. But, I'll explain what I got from it...
The GeForce2 (GF2) cards are generally all better in pure 3D esp at lower resolutions and lower color depths (16 bit vs. 32 bit). But, when operating in 32 bit color (which most people do) as the resolution goes up, the Radeon cards close the gap on the GF2s and eventually pass them in FPS.
I do think that the GF2 cards are very good, but for the money I'd say the Radeon 32 DDR is the best buy going. You can get it at www.newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com) for $72 + shipping.
To me, that's the best value.
Just my 2 cents.
Hope it helps.

i would go with the radeon or go all out for the GF3. I really like the DDR speed.

it really depends on which geforce2 you are comparing to
if it's like a mx200 then you are correct but if it's GTS or Pro it's no where even close in performance....the geforce2 gts/pro is better than the radeon in gaming.....enough said
the radeons are for video editing and minor gaming but it won't be anything (in terms of speeds) be close to the geforce....for now this is true

In 32-bit and the higher resolutions the Radeon will usually have faster fps, even higher then the GTS and Pro.

You guys I think He know's how well the Radeons look and performs. Look at his sig. He's already got a Radeon 32 DDR :).
I've never owned an nvidia graphics card. Only thing I've ever owned were 3DFX cards till I got my Radeon 64 DDR. So I guess I can't really suggest one. All I can say is I love my Radeon!

/me posts in a small little voice..."get a VooDoo 5...."
But seriously, it's all very dependant on what you are doing with your system. Video editing: ATI. Gaming: Nvidia. Serious graphics work, and serious vid editing, for that price: forget about it. Best card for the price IMHO, is the G-Force MX, you pick the flavor. As for framerates, the average human eye can't pick up more than 27-36 FPS. So anything past, giving a huge margin for error, 50 FPS, and lowest priced, is the card for you.

It is so wierd to think of ATI making a good card. I have NO experience with any of the ATI cards that have been done in the last year or so , but ALL of them I have used were JUNK !!!
Granted 90% of those were integrated into the motherboard. But still it is just hard to think of ATI making anything good.
Again this is not a slam to the newer stuff, because I have NO experience with it.
When did they start making decent stuff?

is ATI that good~!!! Now I desperately need 1!
btw it can hardware bitmap which all GF 2Pro cant
SHAME!
hkgonra: id say its whenever the radeon came out. that card really surprised a lot of people. although ati has always been good with 2d, and they have always had lots of features. my all in wonder pro is still being used in my second pc....and for that, the rage 128 chip does ok. from what i hear, the soon to be released radeon 8500 will perform about 20% faster than the geforce3.
unfortunately, i have not tried the radeon until now....and the one i bought is a VE(foolish me), so i cant give any real critisism. i think ive tracked down an LE with tv out, so that should be good.
it does seem kinda wierd though. not too long ago, the battle was between nvidia and 3dfx....while ati was a back seater like savage and matrox. now the heat is on with ati and nvidia(im sure a bit of a surprise to nvidia to).
all i can say is....im glad a canadian company has really got some high end products out, and is getting a fair share of the market.
