My ATI Silencer 4 has just arrived and it's lowered my idle temps a bit but i'm not 100% happy with the overclocking. I'm using a Connect3D x800 XT PE with the "113-A26105-102 XT-PE" bios because i'm told it achieves the best memory overclocks.

I can get it to pass atitool for 30 mins or so @ 575/585 @ 62 degrees, but i was really hoping (especially for the memory) to get over 600.
I made sure i did a good job installing the silencer (applying the paste etc.) and the fan speed is set to 100%. Any1 have any ideas what could be wrong?

Cheers,

Binny.

mine doesn't get above 53 load which i think is great.....mine isn't oc'd as far as yours though but mine is just an xt (flashed to pe)

Geesh an thats a good overclock.

55hz core clock is sweet. Be happy! :)

nice oc,try 600 and go play a game for a while, see what happens.ive gone higher then what ati tool says to.look for artifacts,585 is pretty darn good.
how much ac5 did you put on the memory chips?

62C seems high, what ur ur case temp? I load at 60C (10 repeat of nature on 3dmark2k1)

I've played hl2 for 2+ hours never getting above 54C though, so playing games and ATITOOL do NOT max ur cards temps. They really don't even come too close.... (well I guess atitool has got up to 57C.

But up the oc LITTLE by LITTLE. DO NOT, and I repeat, DO NOT set ur clock to 600 and go play a game. Do up it from atitool's max slowly, testing it at each oc.....

Not all cards oc the same either, so even extreme cooling can't help much sometimes. Lastly, although the mem. is rated for 600mhz, that is at looser timings......

Almost no headroom for my memory. From 560 to 570 is all I can get without artifacts. Core gets a solid 520 all the way to 575. I have not had time to play with the timings of the RAM on my card yet. This is what I have gathered so far. The -16 column is the 1.6ns mem. The chips on my x800xt-pe are also 1.6ns as indicated by the last 2 digits in the part number. My first attempt to adjust was not pretty but fortunately cleared upon reboot. Change the timings at your own peril.

yeah I agree. I have also *finally* learned that ati tool isn't always accurate.

Since I just bought my new card (at a ridiculous price) I can't afford to kill another. "ATI Tool" says 578 / 572 (core/mem) "ATI Tray Tool" was saying 601/600. I stopped the mem test at 600 on "ATI Tray Tool" because I was not trusting that it was ok at 600.

If you temps appear high I would seriously consider taking sandpaper to file down the ram sinks. Mine were incredibly higher than my core and thus killed my GPU temps. Just from about 10 mins of sanding I lost about 10c* off of my idle temp

thanks for all your help.
sentenial: might give that a go tbh...it does sound like a lot of effort now that i've already installed the hsf though :)

cheers

I have an ATI Silencer 4 on my card but my card isnt oc'ed. Idle is 31C and full load it doesnt go above 45C. I played 7hrs of cs:s the other day and it didnt go above 41C. I only used the white paste on the memory and AC5 on the GPU. I love this cooler :), very quiet

perhaps it's worth me reapplying the thermal paste then. i've got some arctic silver lying around somewhere - but i think it's been there for a few years :).

If its ac5, I would go for it :)
