Hy people, i´d just like to know what kind of games can you play with you notebooks at a decent frame rate with reasonable datail levels... Please post the game and your laptopconfiguration (processor, videocard and ram). I´m an ocasional gamer, but would like to know what is able to play what before buying :attn: ... Thanks

SomaGaze

NWN, KOTOR....
Icewind Dake I and II ;)
this is an old dell pIII 1.0GHz with a 32MB GeForce II Go with 256MB of RAM
So far I have only played HL2 on my notebook. Specs are in my sig. I managed 72.90 FPS with the Counter-Strike:Source video stress test running a resolution of 1024x768 and everything on max. My notebook was folding well the stress test was going, so I am not sure if it effected my FPS or not ... Either or I am happy with 72.90 FPS hehe

do you need a hand cart and a little Honda generator to take that thing around? ;)
but seriously, do you have AA and AF on?!? that FPS seems pretty good for 8xAA and 16AF...
SomaGaze - Yes everything is on max. I dont mind lugging it around. 10-15 of burden doesnt bug me at all.
On a dell 600m, 1.3ghz P-M Banias, 32mb(64-bit) Mobility Radeon 9000, 384mb ram.
I played counter-strike, warcraft 3, splintercell (probably 30fps max), UT2k4.
I also tried the Far Cry demo and the laptop died a horrible death. It was like <1 fps and was totally unplayable.

That´s probably the kind of game I´ll paly sometimes... If a 32mb(64-bit) Mobility Radeon 9000 is Ok... well.. an Radeon mobility 9200 128bit will do enough i think..... Or Not? i´m not shure... the 9200 doesn´t have less pipeline units that 9000? Dãããr... :burn:

I can play Call of Duty on my 600m(1.8ghz, 1 gig o' ram, ati 9000 64mb). Everything has to be turned down though and the fps are still kinda low.

I can play the only game I really like, UT2004
Whell Penel... That monster can run anything I think :-)
For now I think hehe. Give it a few more years and youll see me whining here on the boards how my notebook wont be able to keep up with the newer games lol :bday:
Well, this is what I've been working with;
Compaq Presario 17XL260
P/// 800 MHz (SpeedSteps down to 650 on battery) 100FSB, Coppermine core, 256kb L2 cache
384 MB PC100 (256+128)
ATi IGP Radeon Mobility "M1", with 8MB dedicated ram.
30GB IBM TravelStar
This plays MS Hearts, Solitaire, and Pinball very well.
Seriously....I've gotten this to play UT '99 on low settings, @ 1024x768 fairly well. I've also got Microsoft's Midtown Madness 2 installed, and it runs this better than UT '99. Pretty much everything else I've got needs far more graphics power than this machine has to work with...NOLF2, TR AoD, UT2K4, D3, etc... Not able to run them.
I just got this running last night, and haven't gotten too far testing yet;
Compaq Presario 1720US
P///-M 1000 MHz (SpeedSteps down to 733 depending on load) 133 FSB, Tualitin core, 512kb L2 cache
786 MB PC133 (512+256)
ATi IGP Radeon Mobility "M6", with 8MB dedicated ram.
6GB IBM TravelStar
I've gotten UT '99 loaded (and don't really have much room for anything else, w/ the 6 gigger being the only drive I have available), but the 1720US runs UT '99 much MUCH better than the 17XL260 does. Still @ 1024x768, but I can set the details to high.
Once I get a bigger drive to work with (or swap out the 30 gigger from the 17XL260), I'll see what else this will run.
B.
EDIT....fired up the XL260 for something last night...clean forgot about having Test Drive 5 installed on it. It runs that one really well, actually.

Specs are in sig, this might skew your expectations, but here goes:
I havn't run into a game I can't play at 1024x768 with a smooth framerate. HL2 runs at an extremely high frame rate 99% of the time while Doom 3 seems to like to hang around 50 fps. Havn't tried farcry simply because I've been to busy.
on my lappy I have managed to play HL2 at a decent 30fps... with a little tweaking and vid card oc'ing I mangaed to get it to play with most settings on medium and 800x600 resolution... the framerate usually only fell during large explosions right in my face. The biggest component holding me back is my 56k connection while playing deathmatch and I'm used to lagging playing ut2k4 online so slow framerates don't affect me at all anyways.
I have also recently undertaken Homeworld 2 and the game playes decently... unless I zoom in really close on a ship then the comp completelly dies and drops to like 4fps but if i stay away from those closeup shots it plays pretty decent also.
Starcraft: ya I know starcraft will play on anything...
ut2k4:
space empires 3: one of my favorite turn-based strategy games fps don count with this.
deusex 2: this was awhile ago but it ran it ok
p-m 1.6ghz 512MBram oc'd go 5200 32mb
i can't wait to get my 9600proturbo :)

Thanks guys...... Perhaps the way to go for a gamer is at leas a dedicated card like 9600, x700, x800, gfgo 440/5200.... at least....

Like Penel, I have a Dell XPS that can play any game out right now.
Aphex_Tom_9

UT2k4, solitaire
Runs quite well on- IBM 1.5ghz Pentium M, 256mb RAM, Radeon mobility 7500

I'd have to say so. IGP (Integrated Graphics Processors) and high end gaming go together like oil and water.
That's why my next laptop "project" after I finish the Presario 1720US is gonna be a Dell Inspiron 8600. These will take a Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB card. Every now and again I see plastics kits on eBAY for 'em, and dead machines getting parted out.
Building it from scratch will give me the opportunity to configure it the way I want...Pick the CPU, video card, etc.
Unless I hit the lottery big, then I'll just buy a new Sager. :p

Oooooohhh I recognize you from DF:BHD.... OCS and EID servers??
My laptop is my gamer....
3ghz intel with h/t
2 x 512 kingston pc3200
9600 pro 128mb dedicated
Delta Force Black Hawk Down
Doom3
Farcry
Quake3
That's what I play and they all run pretty smooth, using Omega drivers.
The only benchmark I have run is 3dmark2001se and that was jus shy of 11,000. Good enough for me.
doom3 1024x768
farcry same
counterstrike source1400x1050
hl2 1280x1024
sims2 1400x1050
all are very playable framrates/no lag at all

On my A64 notebook (2.0 GHz w/512 MB RAM and Radeon9700), pretty much all DX9 games will play at a decent frame rate ... The battery is the only real weakspot.
Stuff like:
Halo
HL2
Doom 3 (decent)
Farcry
Minesweeper (10 fps... 0_o)
doom3 1024x768
farcry same
counterstrike source1400x1050
hl2 1280x1024
sims2 1400x1050

The more I read about these over at notebookforums.com, the more I like what I'm reading.
Nice machines.

Yep. I'm Super Nade or Dr Goonda on BHD. Mostly play on TNT, Team Havoc, OCS, EID and Digitil Knives only :)
I wasn't aware of the Omega's earlier and I think thats why my gaming experience was so terrible. Forgot to mention that I had 512 + 256 Mb RAM.
The lappy cost me $750 (All inclusive). I guess thats what you get for the price...a big clunker with bad graphics. It ran hot too. Although I'd blame that on poor ventilation and I suppose the XP-M's ran hotter than the Centrinos.
Edit*
Do we have an OCF BHD squad?
Dell i8600
Pentium M 1.6 Ghz
Kingmax 2*512 3-3-4
Radeon Mobility 9600 Pro
I can play HL2, Far Cry, and any other game out there. It's great for most of the UT that I play but if I'm bored at work and feel like playing a game with a plot I'll just switch on over. The frame rates aren't too bad. It jumps in some areas of HL2 but at the resolution and graphics I can't complain :D

Difficult decision..... I´m an ocasional gamer, but wouldn´t like to be unable to paly games... The Intel extreme Graphics 2 is a dead end... If I buy something with it i´ll be buying with the knowledge that I´ll never play anytihing good again until my next desktop (I´ll plan stay without desk for some 18 months... Will sell my old Rig...) Maybe the Intel Media acellerator900 with a double channel DDR2 could do a litle better and play like a R7500 ???

You can get a lappy with a dedicated Radeon 9200 or something of the like for not a lot at the moment I think. That would suffice for occasional gaming.

cs, halflife, aoe, - ive seen my roommate play call of duty on it too. but now adays i reserve my desktop for gaming, my laptop is for work right now.

If anyone have a Sonoma based Notebook with DDR2 using the Intel Media Acellerator900 please try running quakeIII and tell me what happens... Intel Extreeme Graphics2 ... I can´t swallow it... I saw a review where the media acelerator 900 was just a litle bit better than the Extreme Graphics2, but paired with DDR2 maybe it could be better.... and Ok for my occasional gaming...

Everything I've thrown at it so far at full res and graphic options.
HL2
Unreal Tourn.
Lineage 2
Rome: Total War
Battlefield Vietnam

i've been able to play everything i've loaded on it with the exception of Halo for PC (due to some stupid compatability issue) but that game sucked anway. counter-strike works fine maxed out of course as does quake3. ut2k4 does fine at high settings as does CoD. more advanced games like HL2/CS:Source stress my card out and make it harder to play, i have to play on medium settings.
the ati mobility radeon 9000 is pretty good for a 64mb card.

All at 1600x1200 high detail
Doom3
HL2
Planetside
Call of Duty
Far Cry (Few wierd texture glitches, but ran good FPS)
lappy (See below) has had no problems with anything I have thrown at it. Love it, its the only thing that keeps me sane while living out of Hotels in China for work.

Mine does bascilly anything i throw at it. I play CS:S on 19x14, all on high except for AA(Not needed at that high of a resolution) and get a steady 80fps while surfing and playing assault. HL2 is good. BF2 on high. I need more games...
I've played Sudden Strike II, on an IBM w/ a Radeon 7000

You're all making me feel bad....
Inspiron 4000, 850mhz, 256mb RAM, 16mb ATI Rage 128
Red Faction, Madden 2002, Warcraft 3 will play very well at high settings. UT2K4 runs fast on the lowest settings, but I cant bear to play it like that.

I've got a Dell 9300 with a mildly overclocked 6800Go.
I can run World of Warcraft, Half Life 2 / CS:S at 1440x900 (native resolution) with everything maxed out and get a great framerate. For games, it's hard to tell the difference between it and the system in my sig.

HL2 and Far Cry run beautifully on my Sager 9860. P4 3.6GHz with a gig of DDR2, 6800Go, gigabit ethernet...the works. Plus I run them at the LCD's native widescreen resolution of 1680x1050 for uber crispness. HL2 makes it seriously hot...

Q2 on my averatec xp2000/512mb/sis onboard graphics owns @ 1024x768
How well does that work?
I honestly can't remember, but I don't think it was that bad at all, the game is a RTS so it's not excellent graphics, but what I think was really killing me was the 56k connection :santa:
Toshiba M45-S165 notebook, 1.5 ghz celeron M with 512MB DDR (333mhz bus really only running 266mhz for video), ATI Xpress 200M (300mhz default core clock speed).
At default video card clock I can play UT '99 fine and at the lowest settings UT2K4. With a 450mhz clock on the video card's core (memory is shared so it won't OC) I can get UT2K4 to run slightly faster. I've used the ATI drivers available from Toshiba's support site and I'm now using the Omega drivers. Slight performance boost with the Omega's, but the best part is being able to overclock with the included ATI Tool utility. ;)
