Hello! It feels quite good in here, for a beginner like me!
Anywayz, I wanted to know, is it yet worthed to buy a geforce 3?
And...ammm...is geforce2 gts pro worthed the extra bucks than geforce2 mx 400?
One last question is...Matrox Millenium cards...do they use a totally different chipsets? or are they something like geforces?
Thanks!

Hey welcome. We are rather friendly compared to some other sites...
GF3, I'd wait. Several reasons, #1 being there aren't any games that even used the features on the market yet, and prices are dropping...
GF2 Pro for the couple extra bucks is worth it. If you're seriously considering getting a GF3 or the new Radeons in the coming months, I'd go bottom line (like a MX 400) to hold you over until you get the GF3/Radeon 8500...
matrox is a totally different chipset, know mostly for their 2D image quality and NOT for gaming.

oh good...
well, i'd rather invest on 2D, cuz i don't play games that much...
so i suppose i should go with matrox ha? i've heard lotsa good things about them...
i have used matrox millenium 400 for a short time...
it was excellent in that short period...
what do you say about the newer releases?

the newest is the g550(i think it was) released
the 2D with them is very good but don't talk about 3D
the 2D isnt really that bad with geforece line cards, yes, it tends to get blurry but with the 3D features and functions it would equal up
everything has its pros and cons

i see....
but i was quite pleased with the dual monitor support of the matrox..any other card in the market has that?
and....would you tell me how can one have two cards?
like can i have a matrox for 2D, and another card for 3d?
would it be any better, if not looking at it economically?
if yes, how would it be set up? i suppose the 3d card would go in the agp and the other in the pci.....any other configuration that should be touched?
You may just want to go with a radeon, since their 2D is good and 3D is comparable to the geforce cards.

Yes the Radeons are out and seem to be very good cards. I do not have one YET...
But in doing some reading around the net, they seem very competitive with the GeForce2 cards.
Mostly people that have GF2 cards love them and people that have Radeon cards love them.
Look at www.newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com) for good prices on Radeons. They currently have the Radeon 32 DDR card for $72 which is a VERY good price compared to other vendors. I have also done some reading on www.resellerratings.com (http://www.resellerratings.com/) and Newegg is very highly rated and others here have said the same thing.
I think I may get a Radeon very soon. Even when the new (7500 & 8500) Radeons come out, I do not see the prices dropping too much below $72 for the 32 DDR.
Keep in mind the board I just mentioned DOES NOT have the TV out. Newegg and others also sell the 32 and 64 Radeons with TV connections so if that is important, be sure to read the print on the web site or call in your order to be sure you get it.
Sorry for the long reply but I have been doing way too much research in to this and you happened to ask for it :).
Later.

great! thanks for the time to reply!
well, newegg sounds good! too bad it's not for me, as i am in malaysia!
well, prices are generally cheaper here, as i compare with the prices i hear over the forum.
though parts reach here slower than in the US.
maybe that's why i haven't heard of rodeon...does it have any other name?! who is the maker of the chip?

There are two main chipsets used in graphics cards. nVidia's GeForce and Radeon.
Radeon owners love their cards, the colour depth and texturing are better than the GeF2, but at a slightly slower frame rate.
GeForce2 Pro/Ultra are very close in performance to the GeF3, but a good everyday video card would be a GeForce2 MX 400.
There are many manufacturers of these cards, mine is by Hercules (3D Prophet II MX 64 Meg), just make sure it's a 400 version, the 200 really sucks......

Radeon cards are made by ATI while the GeForce2 line has many manufacturers. Nvidia just sells the GeForce chips and others make the cards while ATI makes both the chip and the cards itself.

the geforce2 cards beat teh radeon in gaming for sure but the 2D isnt as good as the radeon
the geforce can give you high framerates so you have overhead room
but the radeon gives you the 2D you need
