OK my system used to crunch a WU in 6hrs 20 mins I reinstalled win2K and my last 2 units have taken 12 hrs each!!! The only difference between the last install and the new one is a change in Via 4in1 drivers from 4.31 to 4.32. No BIOS seting were changed. Are the 4in1 drivers the problem or am I just dumbass missing something? heeeeeeeeeeelp plz

I didn't see any increase in times when I installed the 4in1 drivers. I don't know for sure, but what it sounds like to me is that W2K has some other programs running that are taking CPU cycles away from SETI. In W2K, touch Ctrl-Alt-Del and look at the task manager (processes) to see what's all running.

Done that, no other tasks running, this is what is really making me scratch my head. Maybe I'm just getting some hard WU's.

are you running the screen saver? if so make sure that in you screensaver setting you have it set to goto black screen after 1 minute. If you are running the screen saver I would like to suggest the clc :). Here are the direct downloads you need Windows CLC (ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/setiathome/setiathome-3.03.i386-winnt-cmdline.exe), Seti Spy (http://pages.tca.net/roelof/setispy/SetiSpy.exe), Seti Driver (http://www.wakeassoc.com/setidriver/SETIDriver.zip) and here are the instructions (http://overclockers.ws/seti/Instr1.htm) you need to follow to get them up and running. It saves anywhere from 10-50% on wu times.

should not make that BIG of a difference. My Tbird @ 1000 does a normal WU in 6:10 and a 0.001 in 6:40, but maybe if he is using the screensaver it makes that big of a difference.

I use the screen saver client but use it running in the background. I don't actually use the screen saver portion of the program. BTW the WU I'm on is on course to be 16 hrs !!!! Back to hunting through windows and bios foe a cause :(

I suffered the same problem about 3 or 4 months ago. My work PC (a Dell OptiPlex PII 450) crunches a WU in 12-13 hours but suddently it began to crunch in 24-26 h!!!!!

I tried all the tricks under my sleeve, and asked for advice, but everything was unsuccesful. The last resort was fdisk-format-reinstal and.....I manage to correct the problem. My only guess at the possible problem was windows corruption (even if I didn't get any BSOD).

Hope this last resort is not needed

Thanks for that post it put on a new line of thought, what I think the problem now is a software conflict with another program when the SETI client is installed. I just starting to install and re-install stuff now, I let you know what I find if I find anything. Btw I'm not gonna re-install win2K as this install of it is only 3 days old :)

WOOOOOOT problem solved. Found a piece of shareware that was interfering somehow with SETI. Don't ask me how it interfers I have absolutely no idea, the shareware was not even running. Must install something into the seti software though, perhaps in the registery?

here's just a crazy idea, install the clc version and get back to us on the times, minimized or not you should see a noticable speed improvment over the screen saver version.
