I trying fix my brother's comp. In event viewer these are the following errors.
(comp specs are gateway intel 700 series)
--Application
descrption:
Faulting application winword.exe version 9.0.0.3822,faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0.,fault address 0x0ffffe21.


faulting application winword.exe, version 9.0.0.3822, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.0, fault address 0x0000d756.

In System

desc.
The Control Protocol EAP in the Point to Point protocol module C:\WINNT\System32\rasppp.dll returned an error while initializing. The request is not supported.

Remote Access Connection Manager failed to start because the Point to Point protocol failed to intializ. The The request is not supported.


PS. When trying to install a program like norton AntiVirus it stops about half way and specifies the following,
The system cannot find the file specified;
C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\Locals~Temp\pft1B~tmp\ProductReg COM.dll

reboot
f8 safemode and see if you can remove the program that is causing the problem.

That is what I am trying to figure out is what program or virus that is causing this to occur.

you might also want to check the services and see if all the COM and DCOM services are running

I'd probably suggest running the System File Checker (SFC) from Start | Run...in order to check and repair any protected system files that may have been overwritten with older versions. The command syntax that you'll want to use is sfc /scannow from the Run box.

...and since I just noticed the C:\WINNT\System32 path in your post (meaning the installed OS is W2K, although the above links will still apply)...

I might also suspect the possibility of a virus...especially if the SFC doesn't find any problems.
