You really need to do some research and learn the basics. This forum can and will be very useful to you but you also need to put some time and effort into it. There is a lot that comes into play when overclocking all the hardware you have mainly your motherboard and cpu but that's just the beginning.
We can offer no help if you don't at least tell us what kind of motherboard it is. Some motherboards do not have any options for overclocking.
You are also asking for someone to take a lot of time and effort to write up a step by step guide that you are unwilling to put in yourself by just reading the beginners guides on the front-page.

If you would be so kind to give us some system specs we can work with, we might help you. At the moment, we donīt know anything about your system but that it runs 650 Mhz by default.
Give me something to work with! what Mobo, what CPU exactly, what Cooling devices do you use, what graphics card etc.
Best would be you put those things in your signature as most of us do.
And welcome to the forums:D
btw. I would highly recommend to read the beginner guides.
They will answer you many questions I swear!

Thatīs not enough,
What motherboard do u use?
Is the CPU Slot A or Socket A?
What cooling do u have and how are your temps?

You got lucky mate, u seem to use the same mobo and the same CPU as I do. (Itīs a slot A by the way)
I assume that you have read the beginners guides till now, right?
So you know that there are generally speaking two ways to overclock a CPU, 1. raising the FSB, 2. changing the multiplier.
You may achieve your first overclock by raising the FSB a bit.
To do this,
1) Get into your bios and get into soft menu III, ok?
2) Change CPU operating speed to user defined, got it?
3) Now change FSB/PCI clock to something like 105, ok
4) Save the settings and leave your bios.
5) Your System should restart at 682/683
6) Boot Windows and tell me if it worked
7) Weīll go on
You mayl always send me a private message if you need help!

After your system has counted up the ram etc. but before the OS starts youīll see a message saying Press DEL to enter Setup.
Do it!

Usually the BIOS or SETUP is gotten into by hitting, F1, or Delete. Download either SiSoft Sandra, or Wcpu ID, and tell use what chipset you have, what he Bus speed is for hte board 200 or 233. Wether or not you chip is a slot, or a socket?

He told me, that he had an Abit KA7, a Board Iīm curently using, and that I know very well. Iīll see if I can help him in some way, but it seems not to be easy..lol

ok my thing is a slot 1/a model is athlon k75 argon

09-20-01, 02:36 PM
Thatīs more or less what I have figured out by now
But what about the "thereīs no soft menu III" thing
If you are using a ABIT KA7 The soft menu has to be there.
If you canīt find it, take out your manual and look up how to change your FSB manually. change it to something like 105 and get here for further help, got it?
Íf you canīt find it in your manual look it up in my posts above. They are as detailed as something written without pics can get...

wait i found out what my MB is its a m7mka
-=UR=- Ranger
09-20-01, 02:52 PM
m7mka so, fine, that explains some things, for example why it doesnīt have the soft menu, thatīs something only Abit boards and some Asus boards have.
Which brand is your board then?
Do you have a manual for it?
And please change your signature to the "real" specs you found out. It makes things easier for us. By telling me that you had a Abit KA7 you made me tell you things that couldnīt work with your board. I wenīt almost mad when you told me that there was no Softmenu III in your Bios.
Please look up in your manual, if thereīs a possibility to change the fsb over 100 and to change the core voltage of the chip to something like 1.7 or above. Also look up if this board as temperatur probes. If yes, give me your temps in bios.

in sisoft sandra it said supported speeds:750 and voltage is 3.3

09-20-01, 03:22 PM
Ok, fine now I know a little more. Seems not to be to bad though.
Not the Abit class, but looks ok. Now my question, do you have a manual foe that mobo? I f yes, look up if FSB and core voltage can be changed on that board.
What you can and should also do if you seriously want to overclock this Baby is getting yourself a GFD(Gold finger device)
Some small device which you put on the Debug port of the Athlon and which letīs you change the multiplier which is otherwise locked and also the voltage. The negative thing about this is, that youīll have to crack the plastic case open to attach it, as the debug port sits under the plastic casing. But itīs not that hard if you are handy with a screwdriver. There are guides available on this site how to do it correctly. GFDīs are available on E-bay for cheap.
Do you have some good cooling, like a big HS with strong fans and at lest 1 or 2 case fans? Overclocked Athlons get freaky hot, especially when you rise the voltage as high, as I did:D
My CPU radiates 93 Watt, thatīs quite a lot.
<=== I use that HS by the way!

does FSB stand for sumthin or is it just fsb
-=UR=- Ranger
09-20-01, 03:35 PM
FSB =Front Side Bus = the speed at which you componets communicate within the system

09-20-01, 03:38 PM
Ok, I got some more input on you mobo from our motherboard sektion. It doesnīt look too overclockable as far as I can see.
If Iīm right, you canīt change the FSB and also not the core voltage. This means , that youīll have to get a GFD to overclock it.
Get one, they are cheap. And use the time while you are waiting for it to read all our beginner guides.
I donīt want to flame you, but you are not up for overclocking, yet.

i think it can be changed and sisoft said the FSB was 2x 100mhz(200mhz)
-=UR=- Ranger
09-20-01, 03:45 PM
Ok, if you found out , how the FSB can be changed try it out, but only a little a first. set it to 105 (210) and see if it works.

found this on a site "The motherboard is very stable in windows and seems not to have any flaws, it is very happy to have over clocked CPU, which use the gold finger device on the Athlon, as I was able to get to 750 with a Free Speed Pro without any problems. So far since having it installed in my system I have had no problems with it, bar the overheating of the Athlon which hits the 41 degrees mark at some point and the system becomes unstable, the reason for this occurring is due to the poor heat sink and lack of thermal compound I have on the CPU, it has an OEM heat sink. I wanted to test how far I could over clock with a normal heat sink on this system as not everyone has access to the cooling which is preferred by overclockers (Global Win range, water coolers and Tec's)"

Look it up in your manual, there should be something about changing the FSB manually, if itīs possible.
I doesnīt have to work from bios, it may also be some dip-switches or jumpers on the board, which let you adjust the FSB. But as said before, look it up in your manual!!!

Yes, I did also read this. The author used a GFD to change the MULTIPLIER, NOT THE FSB.
I have said it before, a GFD is a good option for you which will surely work.
On the off chance you don't have the manual, you can find a pdf version here.
