And I am getting an error that states "[B]Cpu is unworkable or has been changed".
Direct Rambus/host frequency is 400/100.
I am using an Abit TH7II with an intel P4 1.7ghz
Is there something I need to change in the bios?
Thanks
William
Try loading the failsafe defaults.
If that does not work clear the cmos.
That may actually be the normal message for Abit boards when you first turn them on. Can you get into the bios and just make sure the cpu speed and memory ratios are set to auto? I know with Asus boards if you so much as remove and replace the exact same cpu it will display a similar message when first turned on. Something like "new or unworkable cpu" and then it automatically enters the bios and displays the cpu speed selection menu. Just set to auto, save and reboot, and everything is fine.
Anyway I'll have the same board and cpu on Friday, so I'll take note if mine does the same.

I put the computer in fail-safe mode an I still got the same message" Cpu is unworkable or has been changed." All of the settings are on auto(and I saved it) nothing. On the bottom of that same screen it reads press F1 to continue or press delete to go to bios set up.
I hit F1 and it bypassed that screen and went to boot program. I loaded up Windows 98 and it worked fine. But now I when I restart the computer it brings me back to the original set up screen(with that same message).
I noticed there is a code on the Mobo that reads "7F" I looked this up in the Abit manual and the explaination make no sense to me. It reads:
" Switch back to text mode if full screen logo is supported
-if errors occur, report errors and wait for keys
-if no errors occur or F1 key is pressed to continue. Clear EPA or customization logo."
I looked in the Bio's and they read as follows:
Cpu name is - Intel Pentium 4
Cpu internal frequency - 1.7 ghz
Amount of RD Ram device(s) - 16
ECC data integrity- Supported (Yes I have ECC memory)
CPU operation Speed - 1500(100)
External Clock- 100/33.3 mhz
Multiplier Factor- x15
Agp clk/ CPU Clk(agp clock)- 2/3
Speed error hold- disabled
CPU Power supply- CPU Defalt
Core voltage- 1.75 (temp is @41? C)
RDRAM Bus Frequency- Auto
Differential Current- 6x
The only thing I havent tried is clearing the CMOS. The only reason I didn't do that is because It says in the manual that you should disconnect the 5volt stand by power and I don't know where that is.
Any help would be great , Thankzz

That's the same info I got with my set up, except for the ECC (I don't have ECC).
The 5volt is the switch on the back of the Power Supply. Turn off that switch before doing anything to the MOBO. If your Power Supply doesn't have a switch, then unplug it from the wall. If that little light is on, on the MOBO, then you still have power going to it.
I only got that message the first time I plugged the PC in. Since then I have made several changes to the CPU settings, but I have not recieved that message again.
BTW....I finally got mine to 118 FSB with my 1.7
2.0 Ghz baby!:D
Good Luck

Is your CPU set to default. Also is the speed error setting disabled?
