I understood that they weren't that great, but I figured for my dad who before a few weeks ago did very little PC gaming. Well I am here to say that so far my 2 year old voodoo3 3000 agp kicks the abit siluro t200's @rse so bad it ****es my off that nvidia dumbed the card down so much. I thought the card would be great for my dad, but now he's addicted to Delta Force 2. It does fairly well with it. But load up NFS High stakes and my voodoo kills it 10 times over. Granted my system is newer with the exception of the case, monitor and video card, but still before I upgraded my system with the voodoo3 300 in ran NFS MUCH better. I have no idea what the best route to go with newer drivers and hoping it'll perform better than it is now.
My old system
amd k6-2 500@501
soyo 5ema+
voodoo3 3000 agp 16mb
128mb pc100 sdram
3dmark2K score of 1327
His system
amd k6-2 500@501
soyo 5ema+
128mb pc100 sdram
abit siluro t200 32mb
3dmark2K score of 1157(best so far and had as low as 1027)
Please tell me this card really isn't THAT bad....also what drivers would you suggest...i'm used to 3dfx nvidia/abit seems to have 1500...well at least nvidia does..
If this card really is that bad..think newegg will RMA it for exchange for a better card?*of kors i don't mind chipping in some extra cash if they would do so* anyane ever try that with newegg?
Yes they are pretty poor cards.
I have not exchanged anything at newegg but I have read about others saying they have done so.

You do not know how right you are. I had my Voodoo3 2000 (3000 bios installed) and my framerates never got below 60fps in 1000x700 (not exact but ya'll know what I mean). somebody whapped me in the head and in my state of amnesia, I went and bought a Geforce2 Mx-200. While the detail is much better, I noticed the fps dropped somewhat and there are times I actually get a slowdown or 2 now. Biggest mistake of my life. Now saving up to get a GTS or Ultra, and giving my friend this thing (he has a TNT Vanta).

That's part of my problem but what is killing me is the detail in NFS is just sh*ty. My voodoo is crisp sharp graphics and I expect the newer card to at least match it's detail. I know without a doubt part of it is driver related(in registry is states the driver is 4-23-99!!? I have checked abit's site and it doesn't specifically say that there is a bios update for thier T200...have one for the mx200(without a tv out is only difference in the mx200 and t200)
Thought about trying a detonator driver but there are so many of those I'm not sure what to do with them.
Why oh why did 3dfx have to go under???!!! *cries*
Simple as pie video upgrades
D/L new file
Run file
Restart
BAM video card driver/bios updated
I think my next video purchase will be from ATI...hopefully they have better updates....
Not related to above..
Anyone seen any reviews of the new ATI Radeon Allin wonder 8500? Particularly interested in the 8500D(the one with digital video editing built in) Wonder if it's dual head as well like the regular 8500
Then best that I could to with my MX 200 (and I think it is the same one that you have from newegg) is 1407. It didnt seem too bad, and I had upgraded it from the Voodoo3 PCI card. And I played NFS Porche Unleashed with it religiously and it ran fine, so I would have to say that maybe a driver upgrade would do you good.

Well I was finally able to get abits bios downloaded for the card....actually got a little better on 3dmark2k...detail on NFS was still very crappy
Also had downloaded the newest detonators for it and installed them and much better 3dmark2k scores and almost acceptable detail in NFS(in otherwords its at least playable now) I still think it should be doing much better though considering my voodoo3 3000 could do better than the mx is doing even before I upgraded my core system. Just before I couldn't handle the rear view mirror too well.
What makes me sorta mad is the fact I could ahve bought another voodoo3 3000 agp for half as much and gotten better performance. I think I'll keep it though and if nothing else I'll donate it to my sisters christmas system I am building. Then donate my voodoo to my secondary system and happily upgrade my video to something truly good....Could wish for GF3, but likely get a GF2 GTS or maybe the radeon vivo. Or heck maybe voodoo5 5500 :D Too bad 3dlabs can't legally pick up where 3dfx left off.

there's alot of sh**y gf2mx cards. i did my research and got a good one for a good price, i'm getting a radeon and it should be here tommorow. my gf2mx could get like 5000 on 3dmark2000. and oc to 225X210.

Not an Mx200 though, theres a big difference.

i assumed it was likely a mx400, but there are alot of them to choose from ;)
try overclocking the mx200. i have one in 1 of my machines and i have it clocked to 220 for both memory and gpu and this makes a hudge difference in speed.

It's not speed I'm fussing about its detail..it isn't rendering Need for speed High stake worth s*&t. Which I don't understand considering it should EASILY handle a game made in 1999.
Does anything besides the video card and it's drivers effect detail? Such as maybe monitor? I wouldn't think it has anything to do with it since I play Delta Force 2 and several other of my old games such as Janes F-15 and IAF.
When it comes to NFS high stake the graphics are CRAP..yet on my system they are pretty darn good. Granted I ahve a newer(yet still very cheap) monitor and a new mb,cpu, and ddr sdram upgrade recently.
Still before I upgraded my voodoo3 3000 STILL rendered NFS MUCH better. Frame rates are only noticable when benchmarking in 3dmark2k...in NFS the detail is so crappy you can't tell....the old 4mb cirruslogic video card originally in the secondary system could render NFS nearly as well as it was doing until I installed the new detonator drivers. Even they do not render NFS crisply. Yet it renders others much better.
