I just recently purchased a Thermalright SK-6 with the 60mm fan.
Im running a 1.33 tbird on an asus av7 133. The stock hsf really sucked. It's temp was in the high 50's to low 60's and for me seemed really hot, even if they are suppose to run hot and how asus mb report higher temps.

So I purchased that SK-6 in hope of reducing temp's and allowing me to oc the cpu to 1.6.

To my disbelief the thing is still running in the high 50's to low 60's!!

I applied arctic sivler thermal paste. I rubbed a nice portion onto the heat sink, rubbing both clockwise and couter, rubbing off the excess. I applied a nice layer to the cpu core *not to much though" 5 attempts have been made. I figured I was the 1 making mistakes. But after the 5th time im like WTF. Maybe it isnt me. :(

Possible problems....

1. Im still a idiot and not applying thermal grease right.

2. When applying grease to cpu. When I goto smooth out the grease with a razor, I notice 1 edge seems to wipe off. I was thinking maybe the cpu itself is flawed and uneven. BUT WAIT.
Is it just me applying improper and uneven pressure? Or is it the actual CPU surface that is flawed. I figure that AMD would have certain "tolerances" and what not. So I figure its not that.

3. The actual cpu mount is off center. And that maybe im not getting "COMPLETE" surface contact between the cpu and hsf.
Any goat knows that the basics of cooling is to get the most contact. If this is the case. how the hell do i solve it. Im not what you'd call a master at fiddling or 1 to get 2 fancy.

4. I might just be off my rocker and the cpu temp is just fine. But i've tried taking it up to 1.5 and the cpu hit 70, and thats when i said forget that and took it back to 1.33.

5. Is the fan just not good enuf to cool? Do i have to go and get a big ass fan that's 3x as loud? Its not a big issue to me, but still,
Youd think i'd notice some kind of puny heat reduction with a top of the line heat sink and good fan. Thats why im p'oed at the moment.

Im at my whits end. Any feed back would be great.

I wuz thinking. If its the mounting system thats sucking. If im not getting proper contact. Would running 2 copper wires to the 4 extra slockets above and below the main clip, and kinda applying more pressure. I have some doubts about that damn clip being good enuf 2.

THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME 2 READ MY RAMBLINGS.

Try briefly disconnecting the fan and see if the heat sink gets hot. If it does, you 've got it attached to the CPU correctly. (BTW, be very careful if you don't have a guard on the fan. If you get a finger in there when it's turning, one or both of you and the fan will come out of it much worse for wear. I speak from experience here.)
