Alright it's time to upgrade my card but I'm not really sure which brand I should get for 6600GT.

I've heard that the Leadteks are pretty quiet when compared to other brands, but I've also heard XFX's are pretty solid cards (the Leadtek to me, looks flimsy).

I want to get them off Newegg

The leadtek is refurbished and OEM

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-122-206R&depa=0

and here is the XFX

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-150-080&depa=0

Which one would you suggest?

In this case, I will get the XFX. Reason being thatthe leadtek is refurbished. If both of them are retail, I will go with the Leadtek.

Can you confirm that? Im not sure if the eVGA does or not. Last I heard they made a special one for a price premium that came with 1.6

yeah, that's the one I'm thinking of Sen - it's like ultra extreme or something.. Anywho, it's not a regular 6600GT, it will have a cool name to signifiy it's ass-whoopin' ability. ;)

Just something to consider. I build my buddies computer with the XFX 6600GT.

The XFX runs very hot even after I re-seat the fan with AS5. It's 60C+ and does not perform good when hot. For example I get 105 FPS on source VST at start-up, then you I only get 40 FPS when hot. Get a good cooler for it if you get the XFX 6600GT. It performs extremely well when cool but get's hot easily. I had advise my buddy to get a cooler and I would advise you the same if you get this card.

It also does not comes with the standard monitor plug and requires an addapter (which it comes with).

I heard the new XFX's come with a new HSF, but they are louder. Anyone gotten the new HSF? Care to comment?

You could try using the Zalman VF700-Cu or VF700-AlCu cooler.

After reading some of the reviews they said it requires 450watts?

I have a PNY 6600gt AGP and it comes with so much trouble. PNY says it only need 350watts, some tech briefs say it need 300watts. Users swear 450watts. I can't get mine to run stable with 350-420watts.

Reviewer also say the 6600gt AGP is faster and post better scores in benches than the PCI-E cards.

my 2 cents

leadtek is a good overclocker in most cases, XFX is not.

depends what you want to do. if you want to overclock it then get the leadtek. if you want to run it stock then you should maybe go with the XFX.

The problem is they never define continuous power or peak power. For example, all the power supplies (except PC&C) rated their products at peak power. When a power supply said it is rated 600W, its 600W peak. the actual rating may be 350 - 450 continuous. The PC&C said its product is 510W continnous. This means it can continuous supply that much power without a clitch. The PC&C510 is 510 W in contiuous, and around 650W peak. Just like applying for credit card, you have to read the fine print.

The power supply manufacturers are not lying, they are just not telling the whole truth.

50 to 55!! I guess that depends on what you think is hot. I like mine to be below 50. 55 is plenty hot for me. Runing 3DMark03 and you'll be in the 60s. When it gets above 50C, it starts effecting performance. That's why I consider it hot. A good cooler should bring it down to 33 idle to 44 load. That's what I consider cool.

Okay lets clear this up...#1 XFX has great OC'ing ability...reason for hot runners..Some XFX Cards arent "top quality" persay. Theres alot of them which are great but some batches just dont run well.. If your running over 50 C stock, take that back to the store and get urself another "newer model" or contact XFX directly and they will take care of you. No card should run that hot stock. If you get a good XFX card temps will be low and OC'ing ability is godly

I'm not sure if XFX will do anything when your card runs hot. It may be on the hot side, but as long as it is functioning as it is suppose to, XFX is not going to do anything about it. The warranty never says anything about the temperature.

I have that exact model leadtek (refurbished too) and the stock cooling is fine. I idle around 34c and under a load it does about 45c. The heatsink is pretty solid, although the way it is held on is kinda ****ty. I took mine off and used Arctic Silver 5 instead of the stock paste they put on. I was able to over clock mine to 573mhz core and 1.14 ghz ram. After that it just started to artifact. I would definatly buy leadteks. I have never had an XFX card, so I am not sure how the two compare.

EDIT::
I scored 14608 in 3Dmark03 and 6104 in 3Dmark05 with the rig in my signature.

Leadtek went "heavy metal" on their 6800GT. Their 6800GT takes up 2 slots like the ultras and runs cooler than cards using the reference cooler. I'm not too sure about the 6600GT. Does the leadtek 6600GT uses reference cooler, or did leadtek went "heavy metal" as well?

That refurb leadtek 6600GT's heatsink don't look too heavy to me. Get the Zalman cooler or the Thermaltake VGA cooler and should be fine.

How do you get the temp sensor, my Evga 6600GT does not have one in the drivers. using offical 66.93's. I have coolbits hack in to O/C, but no temp sensor.

I'm using 66.93's too. I do believe the sensor is hardware on the card. Drivers will see it if you have one on-board or not. If you don't see it the display settings, you don't have the sensor.

You need to upgrade to the newest bios for it to work. Not sure why it was done this way, but it was. Just upgrade bios and you should be fine
