Well I happened to get today off from work (haven't had a Wednesday off in about 8 months now) and to say the least, I had some time to do some things I wanted to do for some time. I decided to build the sub stand I've wanted for the past month or so. Pictures are right around the corner :)

The stand itself from the front

The white dots on the top are those rubber sticky bumpers that you buy at home depot. I usually find them on the bottom of some laptops (these ones are round) and they keep things from sliding around. I used them to raise the sub off of the stand's hard surface and remove any possible vibration.

Fan power unit

This is one thing I personally really like about my stand. I don't have to let the power unit for the amp's fans sit on the floor anymore. It's now secured to the back of the stand by two metal brackets I made out of some spare sheet metal I had lying around. This used to be a power supply to an old Macintosh LC computer I have up in the closet, but since I wasn't using it, I decided to pull it out for my speaker system. It's silent since there is no fan, and it doesn't generate any heat. :)

Doesn't it look pretty? :D This was the best picture I could get of it and I think it came out well. The color of the carpeting/cloth around the middle of the stand in this picture is more of what it really looks like. My camera doesn't take the best pictures and managed to fubar the other ones.

Power unit to fans connection

Here is what it looks like where it all connects together. The power cord for the PSU comes down from the outlet above my monitors and plugs in here, as well as the extension "cord" from the fans.

The PSU powering the fans has a remote switch which I have installed into the surface of my desk. The wires are routed underneath and come out the back, connecting to the PSU in the previous picture.

Now you're probably wondering if this really has any impact in the quality of the sound. I personally would have to say yes, it does. Now that it's up an off the floor, the bass seems to sound less muddy or noisy, and I'd almost call it cleaner. I'm thinking it might be because the bass isn't reflecting off the floor as much as it was before. But to say the least, I'm VERY pleased with it. It not only looks great, it also "sounds" great to.

sorry to say this bud, but do you have some odd and perverted fascination with bare wood?

i am not exactly sure if there is any merit of doing this, but if you say it sounds better to YOU, well i guess it sounds better, lol
