I didnt get a response in general hardware about this question. Thats prolly coz its an AMD question though.

I am about to get my wage in a couple of days. I am looking to upgrade my processor. However, I will wait a little longer IF I can have a Palomino.

Here is what I want to know...

Does the ABit KT7A board support the Palomino?
AND
When will the Desktop Palomino (Say 1533Mhz) be coming out?

Thanks for you help guys. I really want an answer to this as I've been waiting for one for days now.

Thou many manufacturers will release small quantities of the 1.53GHz Athlon processor, they will eventually hit the market completly. The official release date for the AthlonXP 1.53GHz is now backed to October 9th. My Computer store nearest to my house will begin selling Palamino 1.53GHz processors on the 26th so were a little lucky!

Yes, I can garantee you that the KT7A will be able to handle the Palamino processor. There will be a bios out that week with the SSE patch, Hardware prefetch fix and other minor tunings.

Hope this helps.

P.S
LONG LIVE AMD! there countinuing the 200bus a little longer!!!

thats very good news for older athlon motherboards. 1400, 1500 and 1600 are 200bus processors. 1333/1466/1533/1667 are 266bus processors.

How about the Asus A7N266 nForce mobo, know when that's coming out? I'm guessing the Palomino, when mated with this mobo will kick some ass.

Thanks for the info. I might just wait for the 1533Mhz Palomino.

Any idea on the price of the 1533Mhz Palomino?

I would be interested if it is under £160 OEM.

The Palaminos that are out right now are the MP's (Multi processor) more expensive and supports dual mobo's. The other is the mobile which is used in notebooks and has a version of clock throttling, which is used to help cool the chip and prolong battery life.

Yes i believe that your board will support the Palamino, and just another little bit of info the Palamino wil be out October 9th, and will debut at 1.33ghz not 1.53ghz

Your welcome guys. There are two mobos out right now that support dual amd cpus. They are both made by Tyan. One is the Tyan Thunder and one is the Tyan Tiger here is a pic of the Tiger.

Hopefully more mobo makers will put out dual boards soon. Both these boards are very good but offer no overclocking options.

Does anyone think the kt266a mobos will be out around the time the palimino is out? I plan on getting both of these so...maybe it will be good timing.

Ok, it seems like there are some good reply's to this post and we have each others attention.
So let me cut to the chase and pose these important questions that I think we all want to know who wish to ugrade?

1. When will the new ECS board (2 series be out) ?
2. How much is the Palomino going to cost vs the mp series that are out now?
3. How soon will a mobo be released to the market with the new KT-266A chipset?
4. Is the new desktop Pal going to be available in 200 or 266 FSB or both?
5. When will the new DDR 2700 memory be released which has a 300+ bus speed rating?
6. when is the Radeon 8500 going to be released to the retail market?

summary: My personal feeling is that I would like to upgrade to a mobo with a KT-266A chipset as I feel that it kicks serious ass and would like to couple that with an entry level Pal such as a 1.3-1.5gig and then OC the **** out of it and try to reach 2 gig. If I have to wait too long for the mobo, I might settle for the ECS second revision board using the SIS 735 c/s which rocks but still cannot compete with the 266A even though it lacks oc support
because I am impatient.
Those of you who are waiting on the NForce, good luck. It may or may not prove to be a screamer. It may or may not ever come out.
It may or may not prove to be dependable. They are new to the mobo chipset market so I am not big on being part of an experiment. Does all this sound familiar to you? Do these same thoughts go through your heads at night while you are trying to sleep? Hope I'm not the only one. :-) Mike
