View Full Version : how to test for hard drive corruption?
well i used to have a maxtor SATA drive that i was getting a lot of corruption on, so i switched to to an IDE drive with no problems. Well i bought a 250gb drive the other day for extra storage but i accidently bought the SATA version. But while i have it i wanna test if i'm still getting corruption or if the previous problem was just the hard drive with my SATA, if it works now i'll just keep it..Anyway so is there any tests i can do to test for hard drive corruption...
thanks guys
on my first drive SATA i would get CRC error when i would download and install 3dmark03, but i just tried it with the new drive and no errors yet...someone else give me some tests...please!
download the utils from Maxtors site. I think Maxblast is the software you want to use.
Maxblast doesn't do anything to test corruption, thanks for the try though

try installing a virtual drive on the hdd and then installing a decent graphical game. One that needs to load a lot and play it using no disk. That wont help much but might do something. Also for bad secter checking just hold start+r and type chkdsk /f . Hope one of tohughs might help.
Just reliezed you said for storage so you need to type X: chkdsk

HD Tach...look at the chart...you can tell if your HDD is healthy or not right away...
(Have to know how to read a graphic chart to understand HD Tach)
