I just bought an fx5200+ 128Mb (maddog)to upgrade from a 7500 radeon 64MB card on the forums here, cause it was cheap and should have been a decent improvement.

I ran Aquamark3 before I uninstalled the ATI, and got 11072 marks. After installing the 5200 with newest Nvidia drivers, I ran Aquamark3 and only got 8772. This card was supposed to come overclocked as well. Even at stock, it should have wiped A$$ with the old 7500. The 7500 IS overclocked, but just to 220 gpu, and stock 5200 is 250?

Can anyone tell me what's up? Suggestions? I don't know any utilities to check the clock on Nvidias, so if someone could suggest one, I'd appreciate it.

I have to get this machine back to my buddy today, so plz respond quickly.

I'm afraid a FX5200 is not much of an upgrade from a Radeon 7500. They both use earlier gen chipsets than you might expect. Geforce4 T4200's and up outperform 5200's...you get what you pay for. The 5200 was never intended for more than casual gaming. The first decent bargain solutions are the Radeon 9600+ and the Geforce 6200+. :bang head

BTW: You might try overclocking the 5200 to wring a bit more performance out of it. The one I have here in the lab overclocks >100mhz on the core and ram with stock passive cooling! It won't gain you a great deal of performance, but it's free!

But shouldn't later model card with double the memory and higher clock chipset surpass the 7500 in performance? I just clocked the 5200 to 294/443 and it sitll only got 9400 aquamarks. Perhaps the 7500 will be better even though it is only 4x agp and the 5200 is 8x?
I mean, the 5200 has double the mem, higher mem clock, higher GPU clock and 8X vs. 4X for the 7500 ati.

That was an Aquamark 3 score, not 3dmark03. All the score was CPU.. over 8000, and something like 900 for Gpu.

I'm still wondering if anyone can help here? Is the card bad? It's looking that way to me. I tried enabling fastwrites and sideband addressing, no difference.
