View Full Version : Sata + Ide?
My bro has an Asus P4P800S. There's currently one SATA hd connected to it. I wanted to add an old ide one I have lying around so he can use it for storage, but for some reason whenever I connect it, windows said there's a hardware problem and it cant load or something.
Dont know about that MB but I would check the drive jumper(IDE) and the bios and see what settings you have.

what is the exact error? it would help if you could tell us. without knowing, we are guessing wildly....
methinks, without knowing more, that it could be an IRQ problem.

Yeah, your system is probably trying to boot off that drive instead of the sata drive.
According to the label on the drive, no jumpers = slave. Seems odd to me, but it's a fairly old drive. I'll double check the bios settings, but I already tried that. The error is that windows cant load with this hardware configuration, please return to a previously working config.

hmm... can you boot in safe mode? if not, where along the line does it freeze? (what driver or service or what?)
I can't boot windows. Well, it boots, but it doesn't get to the splash screen. I get a hardware configuration error. I don't think windows likes the ide hdd...
If u still got ur motherboards manual read it for proper settings/configurations
