Intel's Sonoma (Centrino 2) platform uses the i915PM/GM chipset which supports either DDR or DDR2. Also there are notebooks using Intel's desktop i915 chipsets.
The Acer 8100 series uses Intel's Sonoma platform. It's a fine laptop, one of the only ones available today with ATI's Mobility X700.

Yeah.... You´re right... Sonoma is there, and pehaps Acer is the only one wich has already put DDR2 inside the notebook.... Here´s another link worth a view: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2164
About sonomas coming.. I think they are the way to go from know... It´s still lacking in the market smaller notebooks with screen 14-13-12' widescreen using ddr2, sonoma plataform and then maybe a more decent onboard video...

The Aviator EX7 uses 533MHz PC4200 DDR2 you know how I know? It’s because I actually spent the money on that laptop. The only reason I got this laptop is because I am in the Army and carrying around a Desktop would have been too much of a hassle and I really REALLY wanted to play Half-Life 2.
This laptop supports 4gb of ddr2. I originally bought it with 512mb ddr2 but HL-2 was doing that damn stuttering problem so I bought another stick of 512mb ddr2 from our good bud's at newegg.com and now I am in gaming bliss. 1 gig sticks are just about to be released on newegg and when they do I am getting 2 sticks of them.... 3 gig's of DDR2

I Must agree with Speed_Mechanic2 ... that acer is a fine laptop and I liked every review I read about him... Actually I´m most interested in buying any laptop sonoma based, preferentially those with DDR2, that is light weight to be carryed arround everyday and does have support in my country...
Dell supposidly announced 6 new laptops the other day but i have yet to see them.
*edit* i6000 and 700m are the ones i've seen so far... still no 533/pci express/ddr2 offered together but w can keep hoping.

Ozzlo, we can add to the 533/pci express/ddr2 a dual channel DDR2.... The chpset does support dual channel doesn´t it?
