In an effort to spark some serious competition Seven pushed me face first into a fire, and then spit in my face. He then proclaimed, "My AMD team can bet you *cough* lame *cough* Intel team to 250k points. I arose from the ashes, and shouted, "Bring it on, a64s are as lame as it gets, you're all marketing and talk, put your money where your mouth is". Enough is enough, lets see what team can back up there claims. There is only room for oen number 1.
Here is the run down. I'm going to force Christoph into coding a nice script to track the race. Seven and I are going to be the team Capitans, and who ever wants to join in, and add borgs, to which ever side is more than welcome. Ill be representing the 'dark side' that is Intel and Seven will be Capitan for the AMD team. Feel free to join which ever team you wish.
This time it will be a heads up race, unlike WW3 where the AMD team tried to make up a 150k points deficit. First team to crunch 250k points will be declared the winner, and have bragging rights until the next war.
Lets get some new machines, pull in HardOCP and OCAU, and whoop on which ever fan boy you hate.
With that said, Go INTEL, I spit on A64s.
Start date has yet to be determined, and will most likley be the 14th of February.
I will edit this thread with any important info. PM either Seven or myself for any needed info.

Bah. I laugh at your misfortune.
The way it really went down is like this. Fishy was pretending to do tricks on a snowboard, and took a farily bad fall to the head, so his behavior is...well...unexpected at times. Fishy really just tripped over his own feet and fell face first into the fire. Me being the great friend I am helped him up, but he thought he was okay as is. The "spit" was actually water to put out his face, which was still on fire at this point. Even though I saved his life, as any good friend would, he still holds it against me. Oh well.

Anyone can join. Any power works. New or switched. Of course the goal is to pass OCAU and Hard so we will need new power for that.
The only rules, is to keep it clean. Its ok to bash AMD/Intel, but not to bash other users. Jokes are one thing, but lets keep it clean. Ill have a mod/admin watching the thread, so don't attack anyone.
Its supose to be fun. Just keep that in mind.

I agree. WWIII is what got me folding in the first place. If we can pull off something like that, it'd be like 500k points for Team 32, not really insignifigant.
I could use some help though, Fishy's got me outnumbered in terms of pure CPU numbers.

It isn't really difficult. Just parse the score at start, update every day and see who gets to 250k first.

I'm lying. PMSfishy talked to me before I saw this thread, and I'm happy to help out.
One thing to note is that there will only need to be one post for the stats, since I can hack up a script to put more than one set of stats into one post. ;) Fishy's second post in this thread will be enough to get any info across. I'll be writing the script that keeps things up-to-date, and since I don't have any preference which one wins, there won't need to be two posts to keep track of things.

Well, it's not really "open source". We've taken up allies in this "war" so to speak. Thus, I recruit AMD users, while Fishy macks on the Intel users. Thus, I take Microsoft users, while Fishy takes open source for some reason.
Mind helping me out? I'm up against the Intel guys with their fancy Xeon rigs.

Fortunately, disgust doesn't preclude acceptance. For the low price of US$20, you can increase your total perceived output by 5%. If you order before the contest starts, you can get in for the special introductory price of $100 for 35%, with a statistically crafted increase designed to make it look genuine. Remember: once the contest starts the prices go up, so act now!

Must say that is a very good idea, if allowed since it will be offtopic in those sections I assume. Either way, I think I'll be adding my new 2100 oc'd dually to seven's team. We'll see though cuz I need the little extra boost from it to help me move up another 13 spots into the top 100. :-/ So we have to wait over a week for this to start? Let's get the show on the road soon...we're loosing ground lately to [H] and OCAU. :temper: Wasnt around here for WW3 but if it's anything like some of you said it was, then even better times are ahead for us. :thup:

I think you'd have better luck with the new borgs if you used a neutral name like the suggested WW4_Intel, etc. Otherwise it may seem a bit like you are just trying to scam people into boosting your personal stats.

AMD roolz! OK, sorry had to throw that in. I love this idea...too bad I do SETI instead of folding. Maybe SETI@home can do something similar. Anyways, I have a suggestion. If Feb. 14 is still the start date, why not call it the St. Valentine's Day Massacre? Or maybe WW4: St. Valentine's Day Massacre. You could even namel one of the teams after Al Capone and the other after Bugsy Moran. Just a thought. And no, I'm not a history buff...the idea just kinda came to me.

Nah, we did the same thing last time and it worked better anyway. We had 2 of the top 100 guys going at it, but it wasn't as fair because fishy had a lot of ground to make up.

Wouldn't this be much easier if we just created two subteams... Intel, and AMD; as opposed to folding under someone elses name...
It's probably too late at this point since people have already started downloading their respective team's FAH installers..... it would be too difficult at this point to turn around and explain to everyone what they need to change.

I happen to agree with Furious. Even though several have already downloaded the new installers and changed their configs, if we change over soon enough, it wont be a big deal. The main posts in all of the sections just need to be updated with the new username and installer files.
Yeah, Fishy and I were going off what Maxvla and Fishy had done in the past for WW3, which was tremendously successful.
At this point...having to tell everybody to change their username to one or the other would be a bit confusing.

Of course! Every CPU cycle counts. Even my P4 2.4B which is my only folding rig that I own is on about maybe 15 hours on weekends and only 5 on weekdays. Even then I still can make some big pointage with it.

ok, i guess you can have 2500MHz (i can't get the 2630 stable enough) of mobile AMD-age too... i just download the single cpu client and install right?

Hmmm...depends on how fast we fold. I will have about 500 PPD after today, and that's likely to pick up more and more. If we can start averaging 1,000 PPD, we're looking at a farily long race. This becomes shorter and shorter with more PPD, but we'll see how well this goes :beer:.
Gauging how much power we have right now, I think we're on farily good track, Fishy is still owning my PPD though.

Well . . . I only ask because I won't be home until my Spring break, which comes at the end of this month . . . So until the 25th, my Xeon goodness cannot spank AMD. Not that I'm even a fanboy, but who wouldn't be excited for dual Xeons?

The race starts on the 14th, barring stupidity on my part. I've got 7 days to test my script and get the bugs worked out. I think that's enough, even for me. ;)
The graph will be of points with Feb 14th as 0 and total number of CPUs, so starting now won't hurt anything.

So, its up to you when you want to start, but thats when the points are being tracked from.
I'm folding for my own points, since I only have one rig running right now..

go ahead and count all my points towards AMD, seven... LOL. i've currently got a 3200(2.2GHz), 2000(1.66Ghz), 2000 (1.66Ghz), 2000(1.66Ghz), and an 800mhz all AMD based foldin' right now.... that's over 7.98Ghz of AMD power foldin' for ya.... (i just want it under my name... sorta personal competition with a friend of mine... he's got a cluster of between 25 and 40 computers (varies by the day) that is folding right now... all pentiums.....
Awww, you guys gotta throw me a bone. I've been pulling some NICE PPD so far (the PPD average isn't really right, I'm averaging about ~500 PPD. If only I could get a few more of you to match or exceed fishy's production, then we'd be rollin.
I crossed over into the Aqua zone today, and that's pretty good for only turning in periodic 600 pointers before now. So lets go AMD!
@deftones: Yeah, I was. I was folding pretty as hard as I could with my rig during the summer, and I recently changed by username from Fyberwire to Seven because A) 7 is a cool number B) A friend got cancer and I wanted to have her be able to see how I went since she got cancer. She's beaten it back since then, so yeah, good for her. Other than that, I could use all the power available to me at this point.

By then I should have the new dual LV Xeon ready and the new new motherboard for the fileserver (XP2500+). My 2.6C is also joining the game, so its ~8.5 Intel GHz and 2.2 AMD GHz. I will probably fold for both teams, but my heart is with Intel.

I don't know if this is just something that happened with me, but when I installed the fishy F@H file nothing really happened. I opened the bat file and saw that it used sc.exe to install the service. I found sc.exe in a non path folder (%windir%\sc.exe\sc.exe) so I had to copy it to a path folder before the services would install.

Stats are beta right now, we will try to get them up and running for a dry run before the race starts. Once they are up and running it will be very easy to follow.

just borged 2 more cpu's for myself.... (two 2Ghz machines)... now folding with 11Ghz of power! (only 2 out of the machines have reported yet... as soon as these HUGE WU's finish and get reported... my score will skyrocket... and go ahead and add it to yours, seven... I dont' mind helpin' out)

folding_monkey's ppd are skyrocketing...better keep doing what your doing seven...we're at 353 ppd already and not even half of the machines are up and running yet that we have secured... right now, as it stands, we're getting 4 3500+ a64's to join, a 2000+ xp, a fx 55, a 3000+ xp, and a few others; on top of that we just got a dedicated 3600+ xp... and our current ppd hasn't leveled out yet, but it is only with 4 rigs, 3.4c @ 3.5, 3400+, 2.4b, and a 650mhz pIII.

We thank you very much for contributing to the cause Tollhousefrank but your points cannot be added to AMD/Seven. You MUST be folding under his name for your points to count in this AMD/Intel war. Ive seen you post a few times about adding your points to the war so after probably the third time of seeing it, I'd just like to clear that up.
And Seven: It's kinda funny to hear you talk about the huge jump from teal to blue. Honestly ONE computer will make that type of a difference. Well, EOC isn't very accurate on the day-to-day scale, seeing as I've had a bunch of 0 point days. We're hitting 700-some points per day now, but the PPD doesn't exactly reflect that. I've been PMing new users off the AMD forum asking if they'd like to join us, and have been working on borging as much as I can. Of course we're the "underdogs", but I have a good feeling we'll come out on top.

Maybe A64s are great for most purposes (planning to get one), but their folding power isn't that great as Intel.
Now - a question.
Opterons perform nicely with 2 operating threads on each CPU, like rendering and such stuff. Do normal A64 also have some AMD version of HT?
If that counts, you may add my points but I see no needto change folding nick on my comp.

I think we'll hit over 1,000 points today...seeing as I started it off with a big 600 pointer at 3AM this morning, and we're at over 700 points today with about 400 more left to be added up to EOC. Fishy is killing us with over 2,000 points today...must borg some more.
You can't really say "oh here count my points" unless you are folding under my username or Fishy's. Also might I add that it's hard to track that many users and add their points to ours. So it's up to you....

Since I'm such a nice guy, despite being the Team AMD team captain, I will tell you.
What you just downloaded and ran (hopefully) pretty much installs F@H as a service. It will run regardless of whether you are logged in or not. It will run at 100% CPU by default, and will crunch units as long as your CPU is on (and it's not uploading or downloading or doing something else).

Unzip either the dual or quad version and run EXE file. (dual for single P4, quad for Xeon)
Then it probably should already be up and running and you can see your CPU usage by pressing CTRL-SHIFT-ESC and clicking on the performace tab.

I've finally the scripts all hacked out. Please not that my posting these pics does not mean that the contest has started.
BTW, since I'm hosting these pics locally I can't see them, as the address resolves to my router, which it thinks I want to talk to its web admin interface. I can get them from a remote account just fine, so I don't see any reason why this won't work. I'd appreciate it if the first person by could confirm that they work.

So then the work I was doing will be completed under Seven?
Here's how you can switch names.
1) Change the username in the client to PMSfishy (not Seven, he doesn't know what he's talking about :D ).
2) Click Start -> Run and type "services.msc"
3) Find FAH in the services and click "stop service"
4) Wait about 30 seconds and then restart the service
That's all you should have to do. The WU that you're working on right now will be credited to PMSfishy, who thanks you for betraying your AMD brethren and folding for him :D
Or ...

1) Grab a shotgun.
2) Find PMSFishy's borged PCs..
3) Dispense of them with some hot, 10 gauge lovin'

Newegg's got a deal on an $88 sempron/mobo combo, which pretty much equates to about a $100 layer with the right RAM, not bad.
Borging a 1.4AMD this weekend, borging an INTEL 2.8GHz HT laptop WITH bigpackets for sure too. Will probably borg even more after that.

My tax return will be about that. And since I have no other plans for it, I could make them, use them for the war... then sell off the parts for five of them once it's done, and upgrade my main rig while keeping the other five for folding. :-)

My tax return will be about that. And since I have no other plans for it, I could make them, use them for the war... then sell off the parts for five of them once it's done, and upgrade my main rig while keeping the other five for folding. :-)
Awesomeness. 128MB and a single HDD is all you really need for this, PM Arkaine23 and he will guide you through Overclockix installation, which will allow you to run all the layers diskless, which should save youa ton of money. Plus 128MB is about $15, so you will be able to get it all for under $110 per layer.

Elric: Well, lets just say our very own Wedo started out with his little 8 layer farm, and look where he is now (front page in the world, #2 on our team). Even if nobody else is doing it, look at the insane amounts of glory/power/chicks/geeky awesomeness you can attain from being king of folding@home. I'll leave it at that.
If we both get to 2,500PPD (not average, but actual points per day), then we will hit 250k in 100 days obviously. Thats a bit over 3 months. Long race huh?

2 layers now be up to 6 in a few days. When ever you get rid of the extra stuff shoot me a pm and I may try to get it and add to mine. I have room for about 60-70 layers on my rack if I use micro boards and about 30-40 regular boards.

I've got placeholder images up for now. I'll be starting the graphs the first hour of Feb 14th and I'll have it update itself automatically every hour. I'm not worried about being able to graph several months worth of hourly data, but I'll be doing some testing just in case. ;)

Well I figure it like this.. Once I'm done building the pieces (crossing my fingers on that tax return.) I'm going to slap them in a rubbermaid crate, or something, just to keep them safe.. And I can place a regular fan onto it to cool off everything.
That's going to be so much fun. It appeals to my modding side, which I have fostered more than my OCing side.. I like my dremel, there are many like it, but this one is mine.
But once the folding is done (I may be moving in between the time it starts and the time it ends.. and if that's the case, it will be in with my future wife whom I'm folding to find a cure for, and will have a lot more PCs running in the basement) I won't need all ten pieces.. or eight, or however many I can afford. So yea, shoot me a PM once it's all over with and we can work out something to get you the equipment.

I have an 60u rack my old plant was getting rid of. I just made plywood shelves for it. I will post a pic when I can.
Well Seven's on the right track... I have very, very limited space. So I'll have NO idea where or how to set these up. I mean, I figured a rubbermaid container, but as I was rudely awakened... rubbermaid doesn't like heat. :-/
Maybe a set of shelves from Wal-Mart with some modifications (of which I may have room for a set.)?

I will be participating on Fishy's side. I have a 1GHz P3, and a 2.4GHz P4 that I know will be in. I might also be able to put in another 2.4GHz, and a 2.8GHz P4 system. I also have a friend with a 2.4GHz who is going to hop in the Intel side as well.

He's still having significant problems with the WU's that his rigs are turning in though....... he's getting 200 points for 8 WU's, which doesn't make any sense.

Well I pretty much know that Intel rules at folding anyway so...Plus I feel that the folding monkeys are real dedicated and I would rather join a smaller group than a war that really isnt Intel vs AMD anyway,since both sides are using both cpu's.
I'm not dead, I swear it.
I've been doped up on some serious NyQuil/DayQuil for the past few days to help me get over my cold, and lets just say I'm game now. My cold is disappearing, and with my newforund time/energy, I'll be recruiting near non-stop this whole weekend. And I'm not making excuses or empty-promises. I'm going to put F@H on my goal of 20 new borgs at least.
Intel or AMD, it doesn't matter to me. AMD pride? Yes. The necessity of needing to beat 20 xeons? Yeah...
If I can double production over the next 4 days, I'll be in good shape, and my fleet of borgs may be the ticket.
I'll keep you posted.

Im pretty much 100% Intel over here. So its Intel vs Seven as far as I am concerened.

Oddly enough it seems that the intels outnumber the AMD's here (although in the CPU section of the forum, there's almost always 2-3x the number of people browsing the AMD forum). Go figure.
