First question: Is Diablo II appropriate for a 15-year old. Too much violence, sex, language, etc?
Second question: If it's okay, will it distract him from his homework too much?!
Thanks.

I don't think there's sex in it, but it can be distracting if that person where to get addicted. Internet play seems somewhat addicting according to some of my friends
I know adults that become addicted to it. If he's a bit of a loner and spends too much time on the computer as it is, I wouldn't get it. You may be feeding him his dinners through a swing door :).
How does Pinky know this? Trust the mouse! I used to be addicted to Sim City 2000, so go figure. Now I'm addicted to OC'ers.com, it's a viscious cycle.

Certainly it is appropriate for a 15 year old. my only concern is that there is not enough violence, sex, language, etc to entertain him.
there was sex? damn, i missed something.
Pinkys right. SC2000 was addictive, Starcraft was addictive, nearly every fun game is addictive :p

it's appropriate. the only thing to worry about is that some of the players feel the need to swear and make racial remarks (at least that's how it was when i played it)
as far as violence, there's maybe 20% of the gore as there is in quake/doom/etc...just blood and some bones, nothing a 15 yr old gamer hasn't seen before :)
And as everyone else has said...it's addictive as hell!
I'd say that its alright for a 15 year old. There isn't huge amounts of blood or gore, no sex or language (unless you count the ocaisional "hell" or "damn" as language).
As for being addictive . . . well . . . yeah. It'll probably keep him from his homework. I know it kept me from mine :)
The videos can be a little bit graphic, but I'm sure its nothing that a 15 year old hasn't seen before.

I fint it extremely addictive. I've been playing computer games for about 17 years, and this is, according to me, the most addictive so far.

i bought it for my 14yo cousin, and now she wants the expansion set thingie........ ugh........... why dont they make these games cheaper..... :P
Well, I bought it when I was 13 :D As for the homework, it all depends. From my poiunt of view, diablo1 was much more addictive...

When the media can, without remorse, show people jumping out of the WTC over and over and over to 15 yr olds, then people can no longer complain about games being "too violent" for our kids....

Most of the violence is not graphic and it is adictive as all get out. Baulders gate series is similar but requires more puzzel solving so streches the mind a bit more.
what a concept -- no offense of course, but would you rather get him a game that he DIDn't find addctive (ie, not fun)??? ;)
well, i for one think the danger lies less in being exposed to things... short of pure porn, there's not much a 15-yo boy doesn't get thru his schoool exposure that a video game could supply...
the question in my mind, is, will it rot his brain??? ;) Ultima Online is just as addictive, and there's a monthly charge, but it's a lot deeper -- you can become a citizen is a quasi=realistic economy! Anarchy Online (which is not a subversive social movement ;)) is the "latest and greatest" of this style of game. They involve a lot more social interaction and problem-solving than diablo IMO...
For encouraging an entirely different style of gaming, though, othing touches the almighty Civilization, SimCity, and Age of Empires franchises -- all of which are due for major updates soon i believe --if your son has the patience for slow games that is... these games use (relatively) sophisticated systems (setting different technological research strategies for developing nations... all in the lamebrain video game name of accumluating wealth and power of course, but as good as you'll find on the mass market!).
Then again, if your son specifically requested dialbo 2... he probably prefers that style of game... substitutes are not usually welcome here ;) and no it isn't "adult"!
Sorry for the excessively long post and the run-on sentences :p

15? Sure let him have at it. However make sure he does homework etc FIRST.
One of my friends gets regularly trounced in D2 by his 13 yr old daughter.:D
