It was really hard to put my window in, but it's got a few more twists than that one, it takes like an hour just to put it into place, for the final one, but don't they install everything if you ask? Personally, and I think everyone here would agree, I think you should cut the hole and do it all by yourself...character building :D Bragging rights, actually...who cares if you've got a sweet looking case if you just paid some faceless person to do it for you? No. You're supposed to get your as5 down to Home Depot, get a Dremel, and have it made of your own sweat and blood.

Bah thats easy to do... At least it was for me and I had to cut the glass to get it to fit on the case I was putting it in... But it took a little time but it was easy... as its said many times in many lifestyles.. measure twice - cut once... itll work...

For mine it was like measure once, cut once...then realize you didn't leave any leeway for the fitting, sand down hole, test, sand down window, test, sand down window more, test, get incredibly frustrated and almost break the thing over my knee...sand down window, test...give it to my dad and tell him I give up :p

LMAO. hey with the lian case I would not use rubber around it jsut get the window ands epoxy it in side looks so much better imho especially in a top end case like that. my 2cents. check out the new writer's case at virtual hideout it looks real nice.

i have never bought a window kit, all of the windows i have done, 4, i have just gone to home depot, picked up some lexan, cut the design i wanted into my case, then drilled some holes, and bloted the window to my case, it looks cool with the bolts coming out and stuff

I dunno, mine turned out real good actually. The hardest part was getting the damned rubber cut to the right length, too short and I'd have a gap, so I slowly cut it down 'till it was just right.

The locking strip can be hard but the trick I found out to it is to take a cup of water with you when your puttin the strip in... Just dip the locking strip in the water and add a few drops to the slit in the molding... then use a small headed screw driver to push it into place... let it dry and wham bham thank yea .... water?

but it works some suggest using a little bit of dish soap in it as well but I didnt need it... But thats all yeas needs....

The locking strip was hard, But I got mine in with a screwdriver, just push down on it, it just takes up alot of energy

Like I said.. it is easier to do with the strip wet... water or some use dishwashing soap... and of course the screwdriver is a major roll there!!!

It took me about a half hour to cut the metal on my lian-li pc68 case panel. The @@$@#$@$ molding took me 3 days to get it on, while I figured out the best way to do it :) I find that you probably wont get the locking strip all the way in, for the parts that I can get it in, I just use a screwdriver and stretch that sucka and mush it in about inch by inch. Man, it was tough going, wish I knew about the wet trick ;)

The best way to get the locking strip in is to take a small flat blade screwdriver and put it under the lip on one side with the screwdriver at an angle, run it over the top of the locking strip for about 3 or 4 inches then do it again for the other side. Keep doing that untill your done. works great for me and it only took me a few minutes to get the whole thing in.

should i wet the molding and try it??

IFMU
10-05-01, 11:52 PM
soak the strip and get it real wet... the water will clean up afterwards... the put a little water inside the area where the strip goes... it is still a little tight.. but thats why its called a locking strip!

i am talking about the molding is that the locking strip?
the molding goes around the window but the window is hard as hell to get into the molding

IFMU
10-06-01, 02:27 AM
gaahhhh!!! It didnt take my post...

Ok By the sounds of it you got the type of molding that doesnt have a locking strip with it... those I really couldnt say - never worked with one of those.. but my first thought would be to make sure the cut is right and good to match the window... i had that problem the first time (ok only) I tried putting a window kit in...

phiber

i have the one with the locking stip type
i am taking the smaller side and putting on my case and then i am take the slightly larger one and useing that for the window the prob is that the window is not fitting

Element-Xero
10-06-01, 02:12 PM
Yeah it is a REAL pain in the arse to get that window in. I got pretty P.O.ed in the process, but you basically just have to work in one corner, then stick a screwdriver or a nail or something into the top of the molding and push down on the window as you work the nail around the window/molding. This will pry the molding up and push the window in. It may take a few tries, but it works. Good luck!

ps- the locking strip is its own separate nightmare, i just never bothered to put it in

phiber
10-06-01, 08:53 PM
i did that but what ended up happening was that the other sides molding fell off

this is P..ing me off

Element-Xero

is it too tight or too loose? If it is too loose you might be screwed.....but if it is too tight then sand some metal off the edges with your dremel. You just have to keep adjusting till it goes in.

its worth it.

good luck

Just use generous quantities of dish soap and that locking strip should slide right in there.

I'v never actually done it on a PC window, but i have helped put windshields into grayhound busses and they use the same system. And you guys think your windows are hard, ha.
