hi, had some problems over clocking this.. i read some reviews in a mag, that suggested its max oc ability as being 950mhz, (9.5 x 100mhz), 1.85vcore .. tried this, and it boots an shows 950mhz, but refuses to load any os i tried.. win9x, win nt, 2k pro, beos, redhat 7.1 .. nothing.. just stalls after boot screens.. left with nothing but black screen!!!.. any idea's peeps ?.. any help with this from anyone with the same or similar system would be greatly appreciated :)
oh also, i thought it was power requirements, so got rid of the 250 watt power supply since i added more peripherals, running 300 watt now.. so i know it shouldnt be that..
and another problem i found.. when i only had a single 128 meg stick of ram, i used to run that at 7ns always.. an never encountered problems, however, the 2 x 256 meg sticks i now have refuse to work at that.. complete hang... can only run at 8ns.. 125mhz!!!!.. does anyone know the ras, cas an ras to cas settings that will work with this? or where i can find it?.. hyundai pc-133mhz ram..

Hmm... how hot is she getting.. it might be over heating also your voodoo 3 is not a good overclocking card... I think itz hanging on something and itz not your O.S..... win2k and win98 sec.. are good overclocking O.S... I have that board and i got my 1000 mhz up to 1123 mhz and it ran fine but I had ****ty stepping... may on my chips stepping was like 1.2 or something

I got it to 900mhz, wouldn't even boot at 1000mhz.. after some 'pretty' hangs @ 950mhz, (had lots of different coloured blocks all over the screen, where it should have been the win xp 'splash' screen) i dropped it down one again, and after being blue screened booting once, it did boot.. however it was hitting 59.5C .. normally seeing it at 45-48 C at any given time.. somehow while doing all this, my monitor seems to have spat the dummy .. i now cant get more than 8x6 out of it .. if i put it higher, it only uses like 60% of the screen size.. can stretch the vertical size enough, but not the horizontal.. arggg...
for the ram, yes i tried one at a time also, it doesnt like it at 7ns no matter what.. the strange part is, i 128 meg stick i used to run, is the same brand an all.. it handled 7ns fine.. if anyone knows where i can find info about ram settings by manufacturer and or serial numbers etc, that would be really useful.. i think it is more related to the mobo swapping between ram but then it still dont seem to like it on its own either.. when i still had the 128 meg stick, an got the first 256, running them together, it also didnt like 7ns, but 128 alone it did.. so not sure.. one or the other, or combination. *shrugs*

The 800 Tbird unforunately has not been a spectacular overclocker. I have gotten mine to run (all though somewhat unstable ) at 987 (7 x 141) I have since backed down 2 Mhz and it runs rock solid @ 973. and a vcore of 1.88 Try bumping your voltage up to at least 1.80-1.85 If that doesnt work I'm not sure. 60 C is pretty high but not outragous. I would definately work on your cooling. What HSF do you have? Are you using ASII, Thermal grease or the crappy thermal tape that came with your HSF? I use regular ol' thermal grease, I haven't seen ASII here in Italy. I also lapped the bottom of my FOP38 and lowered my operating temp 5C. My CPU NEVER GETS HOTTER THAN 50C UNDER FULL LOAD (Prime95 running for 30 min) EVEN WITH AN AMBIENT ROOM TEMP OF 88 DEG F (31C)
I would also download and flash the latest BIOS for your board.

yes im downloading the latest bios revision now, since im running 1005C an checked the site, i note that rev 1008 is there, and reportedly fixes a problem when setting vcore settings yourself.. i had set vcore to 1.825/1.85 .. bios reported it at 1.83v.. and yes i removed the crappy tape although i didnt for along time, when i did, it dropped the temp 10 C straight up.. went from a general idle of 58C to 45-48C .. HCF is just standard.. dunno exactly what cfm it produces.. but its always doin bout 5000 rpm.. also noted on the asus site, a reg key fix for win2k which apparently fixes some agp issues.. since xp is 90% NT/2k anyway, im hoping that also helps.. ill update the bios, wack the 4in1 crap in, reg key, pcprobe util, and run the asusupdate an see what happens..
thanks for the input everyone :)
oh, and hope like hell! that xp dont crack the sh*ts with having a new bios all of the sudden... knowing my luck, and experience so far with xp, it probably will.. so if that happens, ill be back in a day or so after i wipe it an reinstall :\

grrr damn post!!.. why is it that it lets you log in, thanks you, an then you click post an it says not logged in.. an everything you've written is lost !!.. grrrr
anyway..
try again!. (thinks, copy before post this time!!!)
stable so far at 900mhz.. bios is now 1008 .. chucked the other aforementioned stuff in, and it took.. except now its asking me for Via bus master drivers.. but any i point it to it wont accept.. dunno wtf that's about.. tried to let it search, it found nothing, tried to point it to all the drivers i got an nothing, tried to let it search the net, and nothing.. arggg..
oh btw, fan is a global win.. i dunno how good they are, but according to asus pc probe's latest ver, cpu's sitting on 59 C, and mobo's at 38 C.. any one recommend a good HCF combo? this temp seems a little high to me.... i mean hell, its still somewhat coolish here in oz!.. shudder to think what the temp will be when where in our usual 40+ C summer!!..
does anyone know of a good temp monitoring util? ive read that pc probe is problematic an not entirely accurate before..
but not sure of what would be good to use on my board..
oh last but not least, does anyone know of bench utils that can/will work on Win XP Pro??.. tried 3dmark 2001, and it wont do it... no matter what compatability i tried..
thanks again for all the input, has been helpful :)
(copies it all now before posting!!!)
