Hi,

I'm thinking of ordering a Copper Shim for my Athon. How much difference is this going to make for coolingwise? Also, do I apply one of those thermal grease on the shim?

Thermal conductive shims hurt CPU temps. They allow heat from secondary heat sources to migrate the the HSF and hamper performance.

But on the up-side you won't be as likely to crush you core . . . . .

dont get a copper shim
get an annodized one. those are much better,

and you dont apply thermal paste to the shim
just put the paste on the bottom on your HSF
that is it

thanks again guys

here is the skinny on shims. Copper ones suck, they contract heat away from the heatsink and back into the cpu. A nonconductive shim however, will barely raise your temps as well as give you the benefit of being less likely to crush your core. As far as the thermal paste goes, apply it to your core, NOT the heatsink.
