View Full Version : Sunon or Mechatronics
I need a beefier 80mm case fan but don't want to put up with the noise from a 68cfm delta. Here's what I'm looking at
Mechatronics Ultra High Speed
4200 rpm +/- 10%
80x80x25mm
53 CFM of Air
5.76 Watts / 12Volt
39 dba
Includes a separate 3 pin connector for RPM signal
Sunon Ultra High Speed
3500 rpm +/- 10%
50.6 CFM of Air
4.3 Watts
40.6 dba
Coolerguys carries them both if you want to have a look. The Mechatronics specs are a bit more to my liking, but I realize that you can't always trust the specs on these things ( I have a nidec 80mm that isn't anywhere close to it's specs).
What do y'all think? I'd be especially interested if anyone has experience withthe mechatronics fan.

i say
PANAFLO!!!!!!
vgood!!!
The Panaflo's don't seem to have enough guts for what I want. I want to achieve around 40cfm across the sink. Since I'm runnin it through 3 inch dryer ducting, and since I haven't (yet) modded the case at the intake point, I'm expecting to lose some cfm to turbulence and backpressure. So I'm looking at something in the range of a 50cfm fan and I'm willing to put up with about 40 db of noise.
To start with I'll get a pair of fans, one in, one out. Later I have a case mod in mind that should give me more airflow than I can handle, and be quieter to boot. ;) But that's another thread....

get the sunon, they make great fans
i have a couple of sunon 80mm fans but i got slower speed fans because i was sick of having a noisy pc.

Out of the 2 you show the Sunnon will be better. Lower speed and less current draw. Longer life.

You can step up to a 92mm fan the Panaflo FBA09A12H puts out 56.8 CFM at ~.15 inH20 with 35 dB-A of noise. The .15 inH20 is probably not as high outlet pressure as the Sunon but I have found that 92mm fans work well and are much more quiet.
If I were you and I wanted to blow through high resistance I would use a Delta 80mmx38mm at a lower voltage say 7 volts. Delta's push like crazy and even at a lower voltage/speed it would still have good flow. The 68 CFM Delta 80mmx38mm fan pushed .59 inof H20 at full speed so slowed down I'm sure it would flow great and be a bit quieter.

Nice idea on the Delta at 7 volts. Any idea what the cfm would be at that voltage? As for the larger fans....
Well, this is my first do it yourself system, and while I did a lot of things right, I got the wrong case. It's not very forgiving about the size of fans. :( I took Anandtech's advice and got the Fong Kai 603. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice case. If I were just going to run a fairly stock system, it would be a great case. But it's not terribly customizable. Or at least I haven't figured out how yet.

From looking at the fan curves from Panaflo fans (because I couldn't find a 7V curve for the Delta) I am guessing about a 25% loss of flow or dropping from 68 to around the 50CFM you wanted. I am assuming that the fans have the same efficiency. Maybe an electronics person reading this forum can answer this better but that's my guess.

the sunon's are great ... i'm using 4 of them right now in my case and i have no complaints ... noise is tolerable.
I have several Sunon fans including one old 80mm fan that has been in 3 computers and they all have been great. High quality fans that last. I have a couple 80mm high output 42 CFM fans and love them. I have no experience with the Ultra fans, but they must be good too if Sunon makes them.
