View Full Version : fan for my Radeon
I am thinking of getting a fan that use the slot on the back of the case to draw hot air under the card. is this good or should I stick a fan on the card's hs?

Put a fan on the HSF. Those slot coolers, no matter who makes them, always seem to break very quickly.
You could, however, make your own squirrel cage blower and mount it under the vidcard. I don't have any idea where you could pick up a 1" thick by 4" by 5" squirrel cage blower though.

Replace ur HS with a Piii HS
it cools well
but u'll lose 2 to 3 pci slots

You dont need to go to that extreme with a Radeon. They are cool running cards. They do very well with a lapped blue orb or a 486 heatsink with a decent 40mm fan. And you'll only lose the first PCI slot and you dont use that one with an AGP card because it shares the same slot on the case anyways.
I overclocked my Radeon 64 from 165 to 203 and it´s running stable. I replaced the fan on the GPU by a Mini Blue Orb. I used Artic Silver Adhesive to glue it. Further I have a slot PCI cooler placed just under the card. Also I added heatsinks on the DDR memory. Maybe a little cooling overkill, but I just wanted to be sure.
Sounds like you don't have a fan on the heatsink now, you have a Radeon LE?
What Kingslayer said is good advice... the Blorb is usually pretty cheap, or just get a old 486 fan/hs combo, and use artic silver epoxy, or artic silver with some superglue on the outer edges to mount it.

I have the Radeon LE as well and was wondering which is a better cooler for it.....the Blue Ord or a GlobalWin FA420 fan/hs combo? I have the old cpu fan off of my Cyrix 333 on there at the moment.
Anyone here ever try the fan that sits on top of the AGP card (back side) with the funnel on it leading to a power fan that's supposed to such the heat off the back side of the card and thereby cool the whole thing?
