View Full Version : My rant of COMPUTERS and WATER COOLING

With my current system, its REALLY, REALLY noisy!

The fans in my system (no special overclockers cooling fans, no extra fans added, only what came with the hardware):

1)P/S fan (80mm)
2)CPU cooler fan #1 (50mm)
3)CPU cooler fan #2 (40mm)
4)Motherboard north bridge fan (35mm)
5)Video card fan (35mm)
6)Case fan #1 (80mm)
7)Case fan #2 -cpu redirect fan-(80mm)

ALL those damn fans = a really noisy system!

I long for the good old days where there was ONE fan. 286 anyone?

Its about time they start making cool running hardware once more...the smaller the die process, the less heat wasted!

oooo, extreme thought process:
1)ALL desktop computers are in HOUSES and OFFICES
2)ALL houses and offices have RUNNING WATER piped through the walls

Now how hard would it be to have perfectly quiet computer systems with NO fans if:

1)New houses have standard computer terminals with rj11/rj45, cable, power, AND 3/8" NPT in/out water cooling connectors
2)Computer and computer components come with a 3/8th" insulated hose network already installed

If all the above things were implemented, people would have few problems with leaking water systems (as all standardized connectors would prevent leakages) and to set up a store bought computer would be as easy as plugging in two water lines into the wall.

Think about it: what do we all use that has water AND power in close proximity AND has no real problems between the two? CARS!

Powerful computers could be used in the bedroom and living room and be left running.

Offices would become quiet, pleasant places to work.

Cyber cafes and gaming LANs could have all computers running and not hear a thing!

When I build my house, just guess what special features it will have installed? :D

ok...humor me for a second

What are you going to do if you decide to move the computer? Crawl into the walls and redo your plumbing?

You're also forgetting about the general public's stupidity...I could just see someone plugging the water line into their modem jack!

Or what if the piping got knocked out of place in shipment?

And where does the water go when it's run through your system? Down the drain? That sure would be a biiiiiig water bill!

I like the concept of bringing watercooling mainstream, but I don't see "water jacks" coming any time soon.

It *could* be done, but it's entirely impossible, right now. People are like "you're watercooling your computer???!" Fans will do for the general public. If you're going to implement some sort of mass generic cooling infrastructure, you might as well use liquid hydrogen or something...don't want to waste good water.

i think if your going to work on getting water cooling mainstream then you should work on a completly self contained watercooling

and more reliable pumping systems
