Here are the specs of my current pc:
- dual 3.06GHz 533FSB 1MB M0's (23x133 stock)
- asus pc-dl (of course) rev. 1.05 bios 1008
- 2 x 512Mb pc3200 Infineon ram
- bba x800pro vivo 256MB
- 2 x 36Gb raptors (raid 0)
- 2 x 160Gb deskstar sata
- lg 16x dvd burner (GSA-4160B)
- lg cd-rw/dvd combo (GCC-4521B)
- enermax EG651AX-VH(W)FM psu
- chenbro sr209 case
I can overclock my system to 21x165=3.465GHz in bios with ram running 5:4 = 206.25
My question is should I upgrade motherboard to be able to boot close to 200FSB in bios. My main goal is to get these processors booting close or even higher than 200fsb.
All comments and thought would be appreciated.
Look at the new MSI board it has dual PCI graphics and is the latest greatest board I have ever seen in the dual market.
Otherwise you have a decient set up and by switching boards the best ya can hope for is the NCCH-DL accomidates the newer 64 bit Nanconas....

which new msi board are you refering to, i looked on msi's site and the new boards they got, look like theyd cost a lot more than the ncch-dl

To get a system that runs at 3.4 GHz+ at 200 MHz FSB, sell your 3.06 Xeons and pick up some 2.4/533 M0 or D1 stepping Xeons. Then, with the u-wire mod to 1.6V (1.57V actual Vcore) and the MooseMod jumper trick, you'll be where you want to be. My old 2.4/533 M0s booted natively with the MooseMod and Vcore mod at 3.52 GHz with the FSB at 220 MHz.
Actually, couldn't you keep the xeons and lower the multiplier to the lowest value? (Would it be 12x)? then do the Moosemod to get 200fsb?

With the stock 23 multi and a 200 fsb, you'll have to have it initially run at 4.6ghz!!!! until it gets into bios and adjusts multi down to 12. Could it actuall do this, I don't know, but seems far fetched to me.

No. You would be trying to boot to the BIOS screen at 23 x 200 MHz = 4.6 GHz which will never happen. With 1.6 LVs, the number is 16 x 200 MHz = 3.2 GHz, while for 2.4/533 M0s and D1s it's 18 x 200 MHz = 3.6 GHz. You can't use any multiplier setting in the BIOS as you point of reference since you need to boot at the default multiplier first in order to read the BIOS setting.

Thanks for all your thoughts.. I'd like to keep my processors and Sir Gallatin from 2cpu.com has informed me that my only choice is the dh800 as it will boot my processors with a little tweaking at 200fsb. Just it hard to find on in Canada. If anyone could point me to were i could get one....I'd really appreciate it.
