Okay everyone. At this time I have a seagate baracuda .. 7200 rpm, 80 gigs. It does get kind of loud when it's reading, and I did think it would be a bit quieter (since some said they couldn't hear theirs at all).

SO! I've used up about 40 gigs.. I've partitiioned everything, and pretty much done everything I could.. but now I think it's time for the reformat. My comp is gettin' a bit slow.

I have too much valuable stuff on it, and I don't want to burn it all, so I'm just gonna buy another one, connect them together, or use the seagate as a backup. Which one would you guys do? And which HDD would you get?

Thats basically what I did and BOY was it a good idea. I have all my critical data on a seperate/backup drive that makes reformatting a 1 hour affair. Its definatly something to do.

This looks like what you need:

http://www.dealtime.com/xPO-Maxtor_DiamondMax_10_Hard_drive_160_GB_internal_3_ 5_SATA_150_7_pin_Serial_ATA_7200

Maxtor Diamondmax 10 SATA drive, offering sizes from 80GB - 300GB. They're half the cost of a Raptor 74GB, offering twice the space, and look at how they compare (nearly the same in performance):

I got one for Christmas and it thrashes my old IBM Deskstar for performance, and for the price - it's a great buy!

You can also get a standard ATA version, but since your motherboard supports SATA - you might as well go with that.

Hope this helps :)
