Hello all,

This is my first post here and i have a Very big case to play with(3 of them)

So i'm looking for ideas.

The case is that of The HP NetServer LX/Pro.

Can't find a pic of it or i would post it. This case is about the size of a mini fridge( well maybe bigger) and i want to put my MSI-K8 Neo in it.

Thanks in advance.

Is this the case?

http://www.shopping.com/xPF-Hewlett_Packard_Refurbished_PC_NETSERVER_LX_PRO_6_ 200_NETSERVER_Item

It's 18"wX24"hX24"d.

Old pics here:

That thing is huge, put a small 4-stroke engine on it from a lawnmower or something, steering, attach a seat to it, power the computer with the engine, and you have a true "mobile computer". :attn: :D

Yeah thats the beast, I have one thats fully loaded and works very well as a server, but i have these 2 extra cases.

I know i'm gonna put a window on the top of it and maybe some other windows on the sides.

But i want Extreme mod's for it.

Probely big enough to put in a window A/c unit, but not sure on that yet.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys(and gals)

Well i defently want to go with bolth OC and Looks.

So far i have 5 Panaflow's 120MM 6 3 blade 120mm( have no idea who made em) and 1 intec 120MM, and i have a small box of other fans, mostly 80MM.

I defently want to paint the case black, Inside and out.

Probely some sick looking red cold cathod tubes.

and maybe some red fiber optic cabel lights, but with a twist :p ( have most of the stuff for this allready)

Budget wise i'm at 40 bucks, but thats not fixed, thats just to start.

Water cooling is something i want to get into, but i need to do a lot more reading befor i cross that bridge. (wounder how big of a rad i can fit in there :D ).

Been reading these forms for about a year or so and finaly wanted to sign up.

O yeah and that case fully loaded can weigh around 110 pounds. with all the hp stuff, empty it weighs about 30 to 40 pounds ( it's all 1/16 inch steel)

By the way i have adult add so please forgive my very bad spelling

Welcome to the forums.

That is some case you got there. 3 of them should keep you busy for the rest of the year. Give us some more of what you want to do perhaps some drawings, pictures, etc. and we will do our best to steer you in the right direction and help you to avoid the pitfalls some of us have had to learn the hardway

thanks again :)

Not gonna do all 3 of them, Maybe make a top window for the real Netserver.
The other case is not in that great of shape.

Well i know i want to go with 2 PSU. Leave the 500 watt X-connect for the mobo only and use an old AT PSU for the fans and drive power.

I want to make anything that gives off heat, Execpt the mobo, in the bottom 1/2 of the case.

There is goona have to be some big time trimming on the inside of the case, so i have room for the windows, I have to make some kind of bracket for the PSU's.

There is a 16 inch by 12 inch hole in the back now that the factory PSU plug box is out and thats where i'm gonna put the Water cooling Rad (when i get it).

The top window is gonna be 15x14, I have to mark, drill and tap the case for standered ATX boards(server board has some weird hole pattern). I'll take some pics of it so far and post them tommrow.

Peace

BTW, dont depend too much on 'red' cold cathodes for a sick red color... Probably needs a crapload of LEDs.

(Might want to shorten sig a tad.)

Also if I hope that you mean that you will use the AT PSU to power optical drives, and NOT hard drives... I'd feel safer with a new one. Plus make wiring easier cuz its the same one as the mobo.

I do not recommend "mixing" Power from 2 seperate power supplies. If you are going to use one PSU for fans that is fine but do not connect your HDDs to that power supply. Since it will still have to interface to the MB which is being powered by another PSU through the EIDE, SATA, or SCSI cable. This can cause problems since no 2 PSUs are exactly the same. I use dual PSUs but I keep everything they power seperate and do not allow them to intermingle with each other.

Yeah i thought about that as well after i posted. Thanks for that tip. would it still be ok to run the CD drives off another PSU or should i keep all things that connect to the MOBO on the same PSU>

And as for the pic's i said i'd post, i had a little OS problem on friday and had to do a clean reinstall. Windows 2000 Pro, runs much better then XP any ways(IMOHO)

LOL it's probely cost about 50+ bucks to ship the thing. Anyways It's been out in the garage(spelling?) so it might be rusty, it near the front door and it has leaked in there.

On another note is there a easy way to hook up that LCD, Been trying to think what to do with it.

i've only made one and then it vanished....i think my parents threw it away, they did that alot to my projects which pissed me off beyond belif....i live alone now, that was a few years ago

there are other diagrams and what not furtherin the hd44780 section and across the net, just do a search....and the display in that case is an LED backlight not a EL....you'll know what i mean when you come across the pinouts and how to p[ower the backlight
