By "gaming keyboard", do you just mean a little mini keyboard, with different buttons you can assign, much like a joystick with alot of buttons, but no joystick?
Or do you mean a number pad addition? Old, OLD keyboards didn't have the numberpad to the right of the typing keys, so you can still buy an attachment numberpad. Is that what you saw? If that's what you saw, there are alot of companies that make 'em, and you don't need one (It would be pointless to have 2 numberpads)

I've never seen that, I've never even heard of that and I've owned a lot of old keyboards. I even had an original XT keyboard, the one made of solid steel and weighed about 10 - 12 pounds, and it had a number pad on the side. Can you post a picture of this number pad-less keyboard? I'd like to see one.

I don't have one, my friend's got an ancient one I believe worked with his Commodore 64.
If there aren't any PC keyboards without numberpads, why do they make add on numberpads?

Ya I was thinking about just getting the claw instead. I just think with more than one button near a finger(I think the thumb and index finger) your bound to keep hit the wrong one or both..anyone out there have the claw that can comment on this??

The only time I ever saw a keyboard without a # pad was on a first version Mac (my friend had one). The reason they sell in todays' market is for laptop owners (most don't have # pads, just a function+alpha combo) and for accounts who want an extra # pad to set on a different corner of the desk. I know that don't mean many sell, but those were the only kind of people that ever bought one (I worked at Staples for two years). As for the game pad you are refering to: it might be a Microsoft sidewinder Strategic Commander you are refering to? Your decription is about right for it. They made it to go with 1st person and real-time stratagy games...if not, sorry I wasted so much posting space. :)

I think they make then for use with laptops and old lugable pc's. My dad had an old Toshiba lugable, which had no separte keypad.
What you're talking about is likely the Belkin Nostromo N50 SpeedPad.

I use to have a cordless keyboard that didn't have a number pad. It was great to use in college for typing up papers because it was so small. I still see them around every now and then.

The Happy Hacking Keyboard (http://store.yahoo.com/pfuca-store/index.html) does away with much of the standard keyboard, including the number pad. I use the Lite 2 model at work and home. Awesome keyboard imo
