The Cyber Deals topic is NOT an area for placing of Ads selling or Wanted. For this purpose, we have the Classified Ads section.

One (ok, several) word(s) about the new Classifieds;

1) The requirement to use the new Classifieds, is you must be a full "Member" in our Forums. In other words, you must have accumulated 100 posts in the General Forums, to be able to access them. If you have less than 100 posts, and cannot see them, that's why. DO NOT SPAM THE FORUMS in an effort to "gain access" to the Classifieds. Members found "spamming", can, will, and have, had their POST COUNT reduced to zero.

2) Please read the "Rules" at the top of any of the Classifieds Topics (when and if you have access to them) and adhere to them. There are changes from the old Classifieds, and these will be strictly upheld.

Please use this feature, and DO NOT place your Ads here. Ads placed here in "Cyber Deals" will be deleted on sight. Sorry....

I'm just a newbie here, but perhaps a fresh perspective might help you out a little...

First off, any idea about where I should look for all the computer part ads? The front page (overclockers.com) says it's been moved to the forum, but the forum has this big bad sheet we gotta aggree to that says no selling stuff or you'll kick us.

Then I come here, to the most likely thread, and it says again, no ads. So where do I go? (Don't say hell, because I'm already there. I live in Alabama...)

Second, why are the FAQs and Mod post so damn hostile? My boss will smack me (er, figureativly, that is) if I'm not smiling and friendly when anyone comes in, but here you guys seem downright hostile. Well, perhaps it's just those introductory pages that are hostile...

Greenring7: welcome to the Forums!

Unfortunately, you joined at a time when there have been a few problems.....everyone around here really is helpful to those who ask for help, and friendly, etc.

But we had at least 1 troll ripping some people off in the classified section so there were major changes made by the owners of OC.Com.

Many people were bothered by these changes and expressed the views appropriately, ie: saying what bothered them, and why, with no personal attacks or profanity.
Unfortunately, there were also a few that could not act in a proper manner and responded with vicious personal attacks in posts and emails, as well as making threats.

So right now things may seem a bit less friendly: hang around a while and you will see things get back to normal.

And we are hoping to have the classifieds back soon: there will most likely be some restrictions on it, but nothing is set yet.

But the real problem is, when will the spell checker work?!?!?! ;)

I've got a decent amount of references at heatware, and over 1500 posts at anandtech. Its obvious that the forsale trade forums arent as active, with only a few posts per day. Isn't that enough to reduce the requirements? The FBI has recently become much more adept at tracking down trolls, there are threads everywhere about how trolls are being arrested.

Anyways, I hope things will change quickly. To avoid any problems yourselves why not just post the usual disclaimer?

Would it be possible to make the classifieds viewable by sub 100 post members. I understand you don't want trolls posting and ripping members off, but what's the harm in allowing new members to view ads only? That way you'd have a larger population looking to buy your stuff and still be able to prevent rip-offs.

Would it be possible to use references from other forums in order to sell or view threads? I have over 2000 posts at tweak3d and almost 200 at anandtech all using the same username, that and the fact that I have been a member here for over a year (but only 25 posts:().

At the end of the day the forums are here for the genuine members not those wanting to make a quick buck from advertising and never giving back, so all things considered I think 100 posts is very fair, and if your serious about your commitment to the forums you will have that before you know it.
I have several hundred post (don't know how many because its not important) and I have never used the buy / sell I am here to help others not just myself.
Try to care for other and you will receive it in return.

click on "profile" under one your own posts, it will say there. You have 13. That 100 Post rule is there for good reason.

being able to use references (heatware, posts/membership at other forums, etc....) as a qualifying factor until you have 100 posts.

letting people with less than 100 posts only view the classifieds


i'm sure the mods/admins of this forum have very good reasons i was just looking for a definitive yes/no or "we're considering it" on these topics.


after that is said - i want to say hi to everyone and i hope to be hanging out here more often. i am a member of another forum as well but this one seems to be a lot more active and with equally nice members as far as I can tell

The Hundred post rule is written in Stone and is ONLY waived for Trollhunters, the owner of Heatware, select moderators from other forums and law enforcement.

I only have 10 posts so far, but I think it is a very good concept and worth the time, so that the items stay with in OC and are used hopefully for folding. My question to those who question the rule, if your a seller, would you feel better selling on ebay to someone you have no idea of, or one who you can trust and who has researched their buy and will probably be happy about their item. One final comment: I know it will take me a while to get to a hundred posts, but by then I will have a lot more info and know alot more of what I am talking about by spending the hours in the forum.

Don't spam the forums to try to get in....we WILL lock you out, and it's usually permanant.

I really don't know why everyone seems to think it's some kind of overclocking "nirvana", with $10 Bartons and PC3700 DDR that flows like water. Most everything in there is either;

a) Older than Jesus's first pair of sandals....

b) New, and very close to retail price. Very.

c) Somewhere inbetween, and frequently slightly overpriced....we constantly have to warn people for thread crapping on prices...sometimes to the point they get banned...:rolleyes: :mad:

d) Already sold.

Don't preoccupy yourself with the Classifieds....it's not what we're here for. The Forums are the "meat and potatoes"...the Classifieds are for those who clean off their plate, put it in the sink, and thank the chef. ;)

lol...Sorry, but I can see the logic. The idea is that people who are serious about becoming involved in the community and have a common intrest in PC hardware are the ones who get to take advantage of the classifieds. This makes sense to me. I don't want to have to deal with crooks. While it IS still possible that something bad could happen, it is less likely. The 100 posts serves as a filter, and let's be honest, if people have no true intrest or idea in whats going on here, they aren't going to be posting too much.

I say Kudos to the OCforums admins, and thanks for trying to maintain the highest standards possible for forum users. As too all of those who seem to have nothing to say other than various forms of whines, get over it. I'm in the same position as all of you, and if your truly intrested in PC's I don't think posting 100 times will pose a problem.

Most of those who complained about the way we handled things two years ago are no longer here...most of them haven't posted/no activity whatsoever in those two years either...

Post a few more quality posts, and then you should be able to acces them. It usually takes a little while for the post count to filter through, before you get classifieds access.

Thanks for having this policy. I was wondering why I coudn't see the for sale/trade forums, hehe! It's definitely worked very well, as I've been referred to this site from other sites because of the reputable folk who post. Oh yeah, the blue/black forum layout is second only to shacknew's yellow/black in readability ;)
