If you're not into Apple hardware, this is the most sexy piece of PC hardware that you can possibly put your hands on. Not only is it a 800 DPI (dots per inch), laser tracking, wireless RF, 10+ button mouse its also sexy. Did I mention there are no mouse buttons? Yep, completely seamless design (right and left) buttons. I got this thing the other night, let it sit on its base station for only ten minutes and used that entire night (about 9 hours) without a problem. Now that's what I call battery life! It's also very light and glids very smoothly even when I'm leaned back using my pant let as the surface. There is a built in batter life indicator as well (which has stayed at full for 3 days after no base station usage after only one night on the base station).

Here's what it looks like in person. Modeled by yours truly's hand!

(Please ignore bad backround image quality, I wanted it to be dial up friendly, it's only a 25k image)

looks like your running low on batt :p

I have one too, it's a very nice mouse. It's been known to have some lag/jumping problems but using it on the PS/2 Port fixed my problems. The battery life is awesome. I charge every 1.5-2 weeks.

DC5E - you say you fixed the lag / jumping problem... so its non-existant anymore? I remember the reviews saying that this problem made this mouse suck for gaming. I would have to agree since I lift my mouse all the time when gaming and I wouldn't be able to stand the lag when I put the mouse back down (something about the laser shutting off momentarily when you lift the mouse). Have you fixed this problem?

I haven't had this problem...

It may skew you a bit (if you're playing fps's) because it's so sensitive. It starts picking up movement before it hits back down on the mousepad.

Using any mouse on the PS/2 port should solve a lag problem. (200hz vs 120 hz)

Yes, but it solved a big problem I had.

Bashing mice on the computer monitor.
I refuse to bash this mouse. :p

But who needs a ten button mouse? I've been using a two button (+scroll wheel) mouse for about 6 months now and it's great. If you want something that's light then forget 10 buttons, they just add useless weight.

Hmm... I think I got my heart set on the diamondback... but the wireless would be nice.

actually, it wasn't because of picking up and putting down the mouse. I think that may be another issue that's very rare. But a common problem people have is that the mouse would just randomly jump or act strangely.

Logitech addressed this problem by telling people to install the latest drivers, and to try using the PS/2 port.

The problem with my mouse was whenever I clicked the quickswitch button or mousescroll button while moving it, the cursor would jump. This wasn't much of a problem because i didn't use these buttons very much, but moving from USB to PS/2 fixed my problem and my mouse works flawlessly now.

Some people haven't had as good luck and say that even when they use the PS/2 port, they still experience the erratic behavior.

As for the picking up and putting down, compared to my mx700, I don't really have a problem with this. I try to avoid picking it up partly because it's the heaviest mouse i've used, and also it has greater tracking ability while lifted off the ground than a optical mouse.

I've gone through the MX500->MX700->MX1000. And I have to say that this mouse is big. It also works great in gaming, that is if you don't have erratic behavior in the mouse.

After using the mx1000 and been acustomed to it, I can't bare going back to the mx700. It just seems so... slim...

Yeah, it's like a cradle for your hand almost. I used to have an MX300 and it seemeds really small now. It may be heavy, but when just moving it (provided you have a mouse pad) then it doesn't seem like its heavy at all--it glides really nice.

Well, yes, I can see if you want it to match your case/monitor.

I garuntee though, this one is still nicer as far as functionality and comfort go.

the mx510 is pretty comfortable compared to most mice, and it's not just an issue of whether it looks nice wih my case, the finish on the mx510 makes it the best looking mouse around, the mx1000 takes second when compared to the mx510 it's that simple

Personally, I think the Raser Diamondback is the coolest looking mouse on the market. The sleek design and inlaid lights. But I couldn’t handle the extreme sensitivity and had to return it. I don't use Logitech’s since I like to switch back and forth between the left and right hand. I need an ambidextrous style mouse.

it fits my hand perfectly. esp. the thumb curvature... yumm indeed sexy

Redstone - can't you just turn down the sensitivity on the Diamondback?

You know, if samuraisam thinks the MX1000 is the 'sexiest' mouse, more power too him. Whatever floats your boat is what you should get. That is why there is so many varieties of a simple thing like a mouse out there now days.

Yes you can really fine tune that mouse with the Raser software, and I couldnt even get used to the lowest settings. Maybe because I do not play FPS shooters a lot or that I just plain have slow reaction times. Test drove it for a week along with a MX500, I wanted to keep the Raser because it was so comfortable but ended up returning both and went with a basic 5 button intellimouse.

Who needs a ten button mouse? Anyone that's ever used one for more than a week. I go nuts when I use other people's computers, constantly trying to hit buttons that aren't there.

They said the same thing about computers, telephones, and airplanes.

Try one, then form an opinion.

Maybe I'm just old, but I don't like mice with explorer buttons on the sides. I'm clumsy, and I find myself hitting the 'Back' button when I don't want to.

However, it's probably just that I'm set it my ways and hate change :D

I have to say the side scroll is quite useful. I find that side scrolling on the intellimouse explorer 4.0 is almost impossible. It forces you to exert lots of force whereas the MX1000 is much easier.

I 2nd that. I love the extra buttons. I love the side to side tilt of the wheels as well. My finance has an MS intela mouse that is just 2 bottoms and wheel and I hate it now.

The MX1000 is the best damn mouse I have ever used and I have used quite a few differnt MS and Logitech mice in my day. Mostly wireless optical though. As soon as I could get a wireless mouse I got one and never looked back. I had anything with cords. I cant wait for the new Cordless USB standard to come out. Gonna do to blue tooth what cable internet did to phone line internet.

But back to the MX1000 I charge it about once a week, but I spend 8hrs per day on my computer. It is the most comfortable mouse I have never used. I use it on an Everglide Giganta Mousing surface. (this is not a pad trust me) with a flick of the finger you can send the MX1000 zinging right from one side to the other.

Bug fixes, install the latest setpoint drivers, then go and dowload mouseware. Then shut down computer plug mouse into PS2 port. Reboot, it will ask more more drivers, point it to the folder where you put the mouseware drivers. Then once up and running, re-install setpoint drivers.

Mousue will work flawlesly and pefect from that point on.

Come on before you bash it. It is the first of its kind. It has some bugs you have to work around. You would not be a good geek if you did not like tweaking things.

hmm on the multibutton issue...

it's a tricky thing to say "who needs 10 buttons..." when the answer is obvious...

"who wants/will use 10+ buttons" is the question I think you're asking

and really that comes down to the individual.

To climb back on neutral ground, how many of us use every key on our keyboards, really? Frankly I'm something of a minimalist... IMHO, the 101 keys on a "standard" keyboard are already too many, and I do a lot of AutoCAD and Photoshop (aka key combinations out the yin-yang)... I've owned 3 keyboards with various fancy new buttons all over that seemed at the time to justify their 'premium' prices, but I grew to learn the value of a button that I never use... Now I prefer my latest keyboard purchase: a 5 dollar bargain rack model with ALL 101 standard keys (well 100 with the windows key disabled entirely).

On the other hand, there are some who would prefer a keyboard with a button for every function of their computer... and kudos to them. These are the sort of people who will never appreciate the inefficent (?) beauty of alt-tab in light of special flashy buttons and keys.

So back to mice...
while I am looking into a 1000mx myself, I'm aware that there are buttons on there I won't use out of the box, there are some I may use after a few weeks, and there are probably a few I'll never care to learn about...

frankly I used to be a early advocate of the thumb button when they first started popping up, but since my discovery of the easygestures extension for firefox (https://addons.update.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&version=1.0%20&os=Windows&category=Navigation&numpg=10&id=29), the usefulness of any browsing-related mouse button has essentially become belated, dated, dead, and defunct. I have used extra mousebuttons to some degree of success in unreal tournament 2k3/2k4 for my favorite weapons, though I guess suprisingly never in CS... I'm playing CS:S now with a cheapo microsoft optical that can't track well with extreme arm movements, but increased game sensitivity means i still pwn regularly enough ^_~

If there's anything i can bring to the table, I hope everyone realizes that this trend towards uber-functionality by using more buttons and keys is (hopefully) just a trend, but that there are some out there who really are living their lives a little easier because of it... Personally I'd like to see "high-performance and minimalist" shake hands a little more often in the design of many computer parts (have you SEEN the button panels on new midrange printers???? o_O; and don't get me started on scanners).

BUT THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!!

On the whole, um, issue about "all the extra weight" 10+buttons carries... if the weight of 10 small pieces of thin plastic is a serious issue for you, you really should spend your next wad of upgrade-money on a jumbo can of beans to keep by your mouse pad/surface for some weight training :p
