View Full Version : 6800 Ram and Gpu
Can any one tell me if the ram chips and core are the same height ?
I noticed with my card there is approx a 1/16 thick threma pad for the ram,It looked like if I removed that my heat sink might not contact the ram..Or am i just a little nuts in thinking that..Oh it is a BFG 6800 OC..

Yea i know its pretty ridiclous. The RAM is a smidge lower than the GPU shim but not by THAT Much.
Well enough to make me not put AS5 on the ram,I was afraid if I did it would lose the contact to the heat sink..

a workaround for that situation is to get some silicon or liquid tape, anything really, put it around the outside of the chips, put a good health bunch of as5 on the chip after the silicon or what not firms up a bit, slap on heatsink. it'll keep it from running all over and as long as you have enough as5 on there, you won't have to worry about loss of contact. I've done similar things with my modified laptop cooling (ati 9600 pro turbo in dell 8600 with heat plate bridging gpu and cpu heatsink and heatpipe). Works really well for me!

No it makes very good contact with the NV5 and stock cooling. I have it on mine, overclocks increased as well
Hmmm it looked like I could have shaved a little from a penny and slipped it between the sink and ram,This heat pad is thicker then a CD for gods sake ...You guys sure I can run AS5 and still make contact ? i will try tommrow but It sure done look like i can

if it's sealed in around there, sure you can. you could do a bunch of alumina instead and not have to worry about it. almost anything is better then a pad. a penny isn't though!

A penny is copper as is the heat sink..If I ground it flat it would be cool to use lol..But if I have that much space I am gonna just put these thick pads back on..

nope, it's mostly zinc, as in, not good at all. http://www.usmint.gov/about_the_mint/fun_facts/index.cfm?flash=yes&action=fun_facts2
