Providing you've a semi-decent rig, I'd go with Windows 2000

win2k gets my vote if you're using games. If not, then Mandrake 8 (soon to be 8.1)

I use win2k no problems with any new games. Some really old games give me trouble.

Win 2k the only way to go... dont kow linux yet so cant judge against them... but as far as Microsoft... 2k period... As far as most games... everythings been updated to work with it due to how many like it... But I imagine some games might still have some probs...

add another one to win2k here
stable as hell, and pretty compatible with everything
as for XP, its not as stable
and i cant see games being that muc more compatible with XP than win2k,considering the kernel is based on win2k's.
not to mention the lack of drivers for XP atm

well thats my $0.02 worth
:)

Well if your worried about driver support then just use win2k drivers for nething that isn't already installed by default in xp. Everything i have was installed without any interaction. default drivers work great for me. both machines, perfect install. and games will run better on xp then on 2k. it may be based on the NT kernel but it's an improved version of it. Stability issue, i have none. Like every other OS tho, if u use crappy equipment, then you'll get crappy preformance.

I like Win2K with Service Pack 2....I dual booted Win2K and Win 98SE for about a year....Win2K was lame with games until SP2 came out then it was greatly improved. I have since gone to Win2K only and haven't looked back. XP is too new...wait for a service pack or 2....don't be Microsoft's beta tester!!
