View Full Version : Alternative to Soundstorm?
Im wondering If getting a new sound card, say the audigy 2 ZS, would be better than using Soundstorm? Would there be a noticable difference in sound quality?

The audigy2 is the only thing better than soundstorm so i'd get it
Some say yes, some say no. Do you have really nice speakers? If not I'd say you might not be able to tell a difference.

Only thing? Hardly. There are plenty of audio solutions far superior to any of the crap Creative spews out, and some of them are a good bit cheaper.
By all means, let the rest of us know what they are.

Audigy 2ZS and 4 Pro are pretty comparable. I bought the 4 and ended up returning it because I couldn't notice a difference worth the price using Sound Forge 7.
A comparable card to the Audigy 2 ZS for under $100 is a M-Audio Rev 7.1 PCI. If I could have found this card when I got my 2ZS I would have chose it instead. -- my 2 cents
If you don't have a price limit, try out a Hammerfall HDSP 9652 PCI card. This card takes up two slots in the back of your case but only one PCI slot. Worth the extra money if you need the I/O's and the awesome S2N ratio.

Chaintech AV-710, M-Audio Revolution and E-MU 0404, all for under $100. The AV-710 is around $25 and uses the same chipset as the Revos, but has no EAX support. But then I'm not sure if the Revos' support of EAX is anything short of crappy, I've never heard it. The problem with Creative is they like to use shoddy components...low grade capacitors, resistors and especially opamps.
don't think any of those are worthy soundstorm replacements. at least not if you use DD. they probably all use high quality audio codecs and sound great but i wouldn't call them ss replacements, just alternatives. i plan on buying an audigy 4 at the end of summer unless something better (ss 2?) comes out before then.
No, they're all quite a bit superior. With the exception perhaps of the Chaintech, I'm not sure about it's digital outs.
Doesn't the Audigy 4 use the same chipset or similar as the Audigy 2? Sounds like another Creative marketing ploy to me.

if you don't even know about the products how can you say they are superior? audigy 4 is a quality upgraded audigy 2. same chipset but higher quality DACs.

I haven't said anything about the Audigy 4's quality, only that it seems like a Creative marketing ploy, which wouldn't be the first time Creative has done such a thing. MP3+ anyone?
And before you go pointing the anti-Creative fanboy finger at me, please keep in mind that my next planned purchase is an E-MU 0404, a company owned by Creative.

dude relax. you told us that all those products were superior to ss but then you didn't know the difference between two of them. so how can you say something is superior when you don't know about it is all i'm saying.
i love ss and am annoyed that you call it inferior. that is my only beef. i'd like to know why you feel this way and what justification you have.
What? What two don't I know the difference between?

question....
Using soundstorm with logitech 5300's, what settings should I have checked?
Dolby sound
dolby digital
create center channel
center channel 3d plan
create LFE channel
rear speaker phase shift
you are using the old control panel. the updated one has speaker auto config. follow that and you will be set correctly.
Yeah, I don't know much about the Audigy 4. I said it seems, it seems, it seems like it might be a marketing ploy, since Creative does that sometimes. Never once did I say anything conclusive about the Audigy 4. Never once did I even compare the Audigy 4 to the Soundstorm. I compared the Audigy 2, Chaintech AV-710, M-Audio Revolution(s) and the E-MU 0404 to the Soundstorm.
when i said "those" i was referring to all above posts and not just your own. i think that's where the misunderstanding came from. you assumed i was talking specifically to you. you said they were all superior to ss so i assumed you were talking about all above posts as well.

what driver from the nvidia website is the one I need?
you assumed i was talking specifically to you.
Well you did quote me over and over...I would consider that talking to me.

the latest nforce driver (not the nf4 only one) has the newest official audio control panel in it.
emon, we're arguing about my first post are we not? there are no quotes in it...
