Hey all.

I just joined the team last night. I was not aware of anything like this but SETI, which didn't interest me too much.

But, this seems like a worthwhile use of CPU time so I'm folding now...

Currently folding 24/7 with a P166 (I know, I know) and part time with my new Athlon 1.4 in my sig.

Anyway, just wanted to say Hi to the group.

Later,

Welcome to the team!

I don't think that the 166 will be able to finnish the work unit in the 3 day time limit, but the 1.4 will cranck them out.

Hmm. Didn't know there was a limit. I did put on the Folding Voyeur, so I'll check the estimated time left..

Thanks.

Welcome to the team dude, we are glad to have you around!

I am also a bit worried about the P166.. Try a program called Electron Microscope as well, it will tell you if it can make it in time. Just let it do a couple of frames.

Once again, WELCOME to the fold!

From the FV, I have an Est time / frame of 39.28 and and Est total time of 17:46:40.

From that, it looks like the ol'166 should make the limit.

Where would a person get the Electron Microscope program or is FV accurate enough?

Thanks again.

well, hopefully FV will be accurate enough. If you can squeeze that sucker up to 200 MHz that would help a lot.... as well as killing any other processes that are unneccessary that are running on there.... do everything you can, because 43 mins/frame is the minimum time and you're dang close to that...

Any ideas on Oc'ing my P166. I am beating the deadline, but every little bit would help...

Obviously the maching is old so it has no BIOS setting for FSB or voltage (which seem to be the best methods)

I have not OC'd any of my PCs yet so apologies for the simple questions.

Thanks,
Dunga Bee

You will need to look for some jumpers on the motherboard. There's usually a dip switch on the motherboard. This would be the easiest way to do an overclock. It's currently set at 2.5x multiplier, as 66 times 2.5 equals 166Mhz. If you would bump this to 3x multiplier you'd have 200Mhz.

OK. Got the book out for the Mobo and it looks like I am stuck. It has 4 jumpers total:

2 for Clock and 2 for Freq.

But, it looks like the clock is from 50 - 66 and the freq is from 1.5 to 2.5.

Could that be the case? The mobo is obviously old, so maybe it does not offer higher speeds.

Any other ways to OC this thing?

Thanks.

Hey Dunga Bee, glad to have you aboard! A few of us are gonna start folding under your name for 3 days to give you a good start in the stats. We will start Wednesday night or Thursday morning so watch for your stats to go up.

Fantastic!!! Thanks!!!

I am debating getting a new case / mobo / and a Duron to convert my P166 to a little something more robust to do some more serous folding at a cheap price.

I'll keep watching my stats...!

Thanks again.
