Right now ive got my 9800 "xt" running at 450/387 and temps r about 29/34 idle / load cooled by a TT Giant 3 w/ocz copper ram sinks, and was wondering what ram timimgs people recomend using ati tool, or if you recommend not changing them at all due to lower/same preformance. thanks

I would leave the timings alone..... if you've already flashed to xt you've already tweaked the timings..... you may tinker around with it but many that have done so have done so with little success.

You just change them like ram timings, lower the faster, but there are a ton of them.
If you dont mind me asking what are your default ram timmings?

You might want to check out this ATi video card memory timings tweaking tool, it is very feature-rich:

I would play around with tweaking the timings, and see if they get you anwhere. Given that this is "uncharted territory", in that there isn't much information around about what timings should be changed, and by how much, you are really on your own, to just trial-and-error around some tweaks. That's part of the fun of course :).
I woul start out by lowering each timing by one 'unit', one at a time (seperately), and seeing how it affects both overclock stability, and benchmark performance.
Your card's BIOS is already optimized for the memory IC type that your card has though; performance gains through timing-tweaks will almost certainly be minimal, and it is unlikely that you will see signifigant gains without loss of stability, altering timings much lower then stock.

hey guys i dont want to open another thread...
i`ve got 2 questions:
1.)i`ve got a HIS radeon 9800pro ICE-Q with 128 ram.. is it worth flashing to a xt?
2.) what exactly does a softmod do to a grafix card.. a friend had a 1000 increase in 3dmark points after putting on softmodded drivers
thanks

Softmodded drivers unlock pipelines not used by the card. For example, you can softmod a 9500np (4 pipe) into a 9700np (8 pipe). You can also softmod a 9800se (4 pipe again) into a 9800. A 9600 (4 pipe) cannot be softmodded, since the core it is produced on physically has only 4 pipelines (whereas the 9500np/9800se just have 4 of the 8 physcially on the core disabled).
Softmodded drivers will sometimes also include tweaks to the drivers like the Omegas do, but it's not a requirement (W1zzard's drivers for example are just softmodded).

Well the default xt timings are

well i tweaked around with my ram timings and the only 2 changes i made were, MEM_TRAS from 8 down to 7, and MEM_TRFC from 17 down to 14. everything seems stable with no graphical errors and my 3dmark went up 48 points, from 7,240 to 7,288 (@ 438/384 - no graphical errors) and while this may seem small (it is) my anti aliasing and anistrophic filtering preformance went up like CRAZY! with everytihg off in hl2 @ 1280x1024 0x 0x i got 89fps then when i added 4x 8x i would get 46fps, but when i added my "tweaked" timings i would get 69 fps! im extremely happy with my 9800 now and won't be upgrading for a long while. thanks for your help u guys
