Even though this machine is a tester I am playing with, I can't buy any software or use any warez software... just isn't worth it right now. I was hoping someone might know of a "legal" free AV program or a AV program that has a full functioning demo.

Anyone know of anything like those listed above.

if you are looking for THE best AntiVirus Software look no further than KasperSky, it is by FAR the best anti virus made and above all, it's FREE! Every virus Any other antivirus missed (including all the biggies such as norton and Macafee) Kasper found and with it's great tech of doing so without allowing further infections. It has tons of updates, at least 1 every two days, someimes even more, 2-3 a day... you get the point.

PC-Cillin 2000 works great on XP. Great anti virus too. Easy to use, free program updates for the rest of your life. Free virus file updates.

For those who use Norton at work or have access to the Corporate line of Norton AV, Norton Corporate 7.6 works perfectly with XP. Diskeeper Workstation 6 works awesome with XP! I found a copy of that on one of our servers here at work and figured what the heck, lets give it a shot! The machine defrags considerably quicker than Win2K or Nt4, at least in my situation it did.

OffTopic: Rumor around the office is that they are going to skip upgrading to Win2K for WinXP Pro. I'm not sure XP is ready for the working enviroment yet... we still have some ancient machines and programs running around this place! Who makes these decisions?

I have heard that, once we get some more copies to install and test all of the software that is developed in house, we will see if it is a good decision for the company. Maybe I was to hasty with that comment...

Some of the business units are just starting to phase out Pentium 200Mhz machines... ouch! It will be interesting to see how our old programs work with XP.
