I'm getting an email hang problem. Every time I check my email Outhouse Express tries to get my messages. It gets one from Overclockers.com telling me someone replied to a thread I'm subscribed to and then the system sits, and sits, and sits, and won't complete the download. Wtf!?!? I had this problem once before and worked around it by using my K6 system to get my email. It downloaded the mail and that cleared the log jam. I tried it now but no go. I can't get past this message to get any mail I have waiting beyond it. What do I do????

911!!!!!!!

Now that I'm a bit calmer here's my problem put in a constructive manner. This is the response I get when they system stops getting my mail (on two seperate computers):

A time-out occurred while communicating with the server. Account: 'mail', Server: 'localhost', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19

Anybody got any clue?

Ok first: in the error message, "Server: 'localhost'" If it's a local mail server, then check the settings on it, or clear out the problem message manually.

If it's not a local mail server, try using a real mail program like Eudora, http://www.eudora.com/products/eudora/download/
If that doesn't help, call your ISP, and tell them what's going on (or send them email and ask for a telephone response)

Hope this helps :)

"Local host" implies my firewall machine, which my other 2 are routed through, is the culprit. If so why would it affect one message? I'm using a secondary email account without problem through the same firewall. How do I clear out the problem message manually?

Btw I hope it helps too, thanks. :)

It it isn't your mail server locally, then you can't (I thought it might be because the mail server was set as "localhost", but that's just your firewall)

The only thing I can think of is that the mail server isn't getting the acknowledgement of the email being recieved, and the command to delete it off the server (sent after you get the message). Try running your email program straight to the server, not through the firewall. That will determine if the firewall is the culprit or not (if it is, then your firewall rules need tweaking, if not, you need to call your ISP, or update your email software)

btw: when I had DSL, i had a web-based email aswell, if you have access to a web-based email instead of POP, it would be a good idea trying to use that to delete the message.

Is this something I could get @home to do on their end of the line? Could I just call Rogers up and ask them to delete all incoming mail to my main address because one particular message is snaffu-ing things? Can they do that on their end?

Clearly my computer knowledge is not well rooted in internet related info.:(

The first-level technicians won't be able to (the first guys that you talk to). Their entire job it to say, "No, it must be something wrong on your end, let's try working through the pre-defined problems in my manual"

If you can convince them that the only way to fix it is to delete your incomming email, then they may forward you to a second-level technician, or their manager. Either of which usually knows what they're doing.

If you havn't already tried another email program, I would suggest that you do, Outlook is full of bugs, and may be the problem (as the first-level techs will point out)... try Eudora (a link was posted earlier)

Surprisingly the first guy I talked to on their help line did help me. He deleted my incoming messages to clear out the bad one so I could get back to using my main account. I didn't think it would be easy either. I expected them to tell me it was all my problem on my end but all he asked was why I wanted them deleted. I told him my email downloads were constantly hanging between the second and third message and I wanted to remove those messages to straighten things out and he deleted them! Surprise surprise! :D

They should fire him! I guy who knows what he's doing has no place working for a big mindless, I mean faceless, corporation. :D :D :D

Wow... I'm surprised... The first technicians usually don't have the power to do that kind of stuff... They usually restrict it so that not just anyone can call up and say "Delete *my* email!"...
