Hi, I just built my first rig. It consists of:

Abit-KG7 Raid Motherboard
Athlon 1.4 T-Bird
Thermal Take SuperMini Orb
2X256MB Crucial Ram pc2100
Creative 12X DVD
Yamaha 16X CDRW
Leadtek GeForce2 MX DH Pro 32MB
Soundblaster X-Gamer 5.1
Antec Case and 300 watt Antec PSU

The problem that I'm having is that my cpu is at idle 55dC, under load 62dC. I think that i have it properly cooled, but I'm not so sure. The Mini Orb is rated for an amd athlon 1.5. My system is pretty stable but not solid so i'm guessing that these temperatures my bois are supplying me are correct. I'm wondering if it might be my psu not supplying enough power, i dont really know though. Please give me your feedback.

Looks to me like your HS. That Orb isn't doing well ( I know I'm using a Dragon Orb). Not completely sure but we have close to same system and mine is ALOT cooler.

What Placid said :)

Thanks guys, I thought maybe that was the problem, but since it says it was rated for a 1.5 I believed it. I've got a dragon orb 3 and an all aluminum case coming on monday, so i think my cooling problems are over, hopefully this all will fix it.

I'd love to know who the guy is that rates these HSF's...they should take him outside and give him a swift kick in the rump. For the money you used to by that miniorb, you probably could have found a much more capable, alumnium HSF out there. Better luck next time!!

Cool. Thanks for all your input guys. I've also discovered that my +5 Voltage is 4.76, i know thats low, but what does it affect and any ideas on fixing it?
Thanks again.

My +5 is 4.78 and it usually hovers around that area. I'm using a 300 watt PSU w/ an Athlon so that could account for some of the difference but I would not be overly concerned w/ 4.76. Keep an eye on it.

Thanks you guys, i think i'm going to hold off trying to fix any more problems until i finish replacing my case, power supply, and cooling fan, its my belief now that those will fix everything, thanks for everyones help.

That orb will only cause ur cpu to burn
use some HS that's LOUD
like my CAK38
see my sig my temps are pretty good

and of course
GOOD COOLING = LOUD
(Watacoolin is an exceptional)

I would perhaps wait for the new Alpha 80mm HS to arrive. They seem to be top of the line again
