View Full Version : OCZ Powerstream 600W - ticking......

I recently bought the P/stream 600W.....
I noticed when the PC is shutdown there is a soft ticking coming from the PSU. To stop this I turned off the rocker switch on the back of the PSU. With the switch turned “On” the ticking ticks continuously non-stop (irregular intervals, approx 1 sec).
I emailed OCZ and they said it was very strange and offered me an RMA, but this will be my cost to post it off to them in the USA ($25.00). It's very good of OCZ to offer, but I'm unsure if I should bother doing this as the unit performs perfectly in every other aspect.
So question is; should I spent approx. $25.00 and do without a PC for a couple of days. All to find out there was already nothing wrong with the unit in the first place. Or get it check out, and play it safe?

I would play it safe and send it back.

Take it out of the PSU slot on the case, and turn it on, in an out of case scenario... see if it makes the same noise..

The ticking noise is something that has been spotted on some of the EU OCZ Powerstream units. However, it does not mean that your unit is bad or defective. Nonetheless, OCZ has gone on record several times stating that they will issue an RMA to anyone looking to swap out their ticker for a noiseless unit. I'd go with the RMA if I were you.

I don't know where FL to CT is, but I'm in Australia and using the Australia Post calculator it is AUS$40 for economy air with insurance.

huh, weird. my tripp lite back-up makes the same noise. It is a normal noise, and I think it has to do with the voltage regulation circuitry. Any chance your psu has a feature like that? But if ocz didn't know, then it is probably not normal behavior. But do they make those psu in-house, anyway?

Thanks for that....
I probably wouldn't have done anything about this either if it wasn't for OCZ offering a replacement unit.
