Its not. The real "LE" Limited edition card, was a 6800U. That is not. Not Dual power, not dual DVI, not a 6800U cooling solution.
This card is slower than a 6800NU.

I understand that is this a dialed down 6800NU but its got the same memory speed with twice the memory. And should be able to overclock a fair amount above nU speeds. You should also be albe to unlock the pipes also.

Don't feel bad, they were very hard to get, both Newegg and Zipzoomfly sold out quick and weren't able to easily restock them. I had my eye on that card and used a program to notify me if the card ever was back in stock, but it never materialized, so I jumped on that BFG deal last week..

If the pipes can be unlocked should be a nice card, if I wouldn't had just bought a new GT I would seriously think about getting one of these. May go ahead and buy one and see what happens.
I am amazed people are thinking this a bad buy..It must conform to the 6800 series specs in GPU and ram right ? Or how could it be called a 6800..It has to have 12 pipes and 4 shaders opened,,,I wish i saw this i would have gotten it and Oced the crap out of it..

Exactly. Less than a eVGA 6800 128MB with twice the memory.... Can't go wrong with that.
Looking at specs, it's 256-bit ram too. Killer deal.

I think you're exactly right, except about the pipes. I'm 99.99% sure all the 6800LE cards only have 8 pipes open. It is probably modable to 12 or 16 though. I know for certain that 128mb LE's only have 8 pipes, and people have been successful and opening up additionals.

In stock form they are probally about the same.
Depending on how/if you can mod the card it might be able to pull away from a 6600GT.
If you have a 6600GT I would not consider upgrading to this.

In Florida, some people have mullet tossing competitions, since the fish is better tossed, than eaten as they don't taste to good. Some people eat the gizard and the roe, but these people are nuts if you ask me.

Well I am glad his did, cause this one is giving me trouble. I can open up all pipes and shadders but get major, major problems trying to reboot. Then when I finally got it to open windows, tried to run 3D mark and just wouldn't get past the first screen.
I think I might try some different drivers, but I doubt that has anything to do with rebooting.

Just to add to the discussion just because you can unlock the extra pixel pipes doesn't mean they are going to work. I unlocked the extra pipes on my eVGA 6800 and I got wicked artifacting in 3Dmark 03. I read in a post this was happening to others as well and someone commented that sometimes the difference between the GT models and the base models is that the board the base models are on failed a quality test for example bad pixel pipes so they close them down and make it a base model instead of tossing out the card. I will say though that I was able to unlock the one vertex shader with no problems and it did overclock fairly well. I also think the eVGA's seem to have better heat sinks than some other brands, I know BFG's have a small HS.
My BFG heat sink is pure copper with 2 Blue LED FANS,, And when ya take it off it has decient weight to it,The only thing that makes it so so is it was never made to make direct contact with the ram and it uses 1/8 thick thermal pads that I think do more harm then good...If I hade some copper shims I am sure it would help in cooling the ram..

linky linky below

^ ^ ^ = good question...
And will it be faster than a 6600GT...And if so by how much, they are about the same price...
treepop
02-23-05, 04:50 PM
NU:
It will be greater then a stock NU becuase it will have 2x the amount of memory; if both the nu and this one have all the sharers and pipes unlocked then the LE would still have 2x the memory.
6600GT:
It will have 2x the memory and 256 bit memory vs the 6600gt's 128bit memory; along with that it will have the same pipes and shaders if both are unlocked successfully; the only advantage I see the 6600gt having is gddr3 memory; which although faster; has looser timings and is only 128bit
I would say this card is a prime candidate for Overclocking; as I said earlier; with all the pipes and shaders unlocked; the core and memory overclocked; this card has the potential to rival a GT......if you can get that ddr1 memory to the same speeds; please correct me if I am mistaken :)
youre killing me :p Post some 3dmark03 scores aready!

Here is the deal, I can softmod it to open 16/6. Will play games that way (Doom/Diablo II) but will not run 3DMark2003. However if I disable bit02 (rivatuner) and get it to 12/6 it runs it perfectly no problems.
Stock out the box it gets between 7000-7100
With 12/6 I can get around 7600
However I bumped up the clock speeds from 300/700 to 375/850 and I just got 8881. Keep in mind I haven't tried different drivers or even tinkered with the settings. Also I jumped to 375/850 right away and it hasn't flinched. This is with the stock eVGA cooler and thermal tape. I think this card can go much higher.
All and all right now its looking like a very good buy.

Here is the screen shot a 12/6 and 375/850 (btw, I am running a very cheap ECS mobo that came with my processor and may be limiting this quite a bit, also processor and memory are completely stock settings, no overclocking).

Like I said also, I am not running high end memory or a mobo (check my sig). I am also not overclocking my CPU at all. I will probably play around with drivers this weekend, when I have the time, and see what I can do. With only tweaking the drivers I should be able to hit 9000. I am fixing to test the card at 405/885 and see what it does. I am sure with the right combo of mobo/memory and overclocking the system it could get much, much higher.

I am going to try some differnt drivers later this week and see what I can do.

just for those wondering, there are some 6800 variations that unlock everything and run everything perfectly. in my girlfriemds rig I put in a pny 6800nu that I got on black friday, $220. it goes to 16/6 and at 16/6 did 400/800 on water with no real pushing on the core. I did flash it to the 1.5v bios. the mem eventually gave a bit of artifacting at 800 I think I remember.
it really is a crap shoot though, I got two of those cards on the same day, one for a friends build and one for the gf's, and the other one would only unlock a shader. almost 100% unlock that shader. the pipes are trickier.
agree that if you get a 256mb le and it unlocks everything, it can be better than an NU, but do note that the nu's are 12pipes default, so the worst you can do is 12. unless we find that all le's do 12 at least, you could get hosed and only get 8. with the nu available for only a bit more, i'd go with that again if given the choice. those lucky enough to get 256mb 16/6 cards may pass it, but the nu is the safer bet until the le proves otherwise. that said, I wish those le's that were ultras in disguise came back as $220 cards!
if only this card had a connector for the psu!
But right out of the BOX this deal is way better then a 6600GT....And that it easily closes in on 9000 points is a big deal as well as having 12 pipes opened ...Great deal for 229.00

Usually the 6600GT is in the low to mid 7000 Point range stock out of box..I am sure it can do better in some systems but even over clocked it is hard pressed to score as well as a Basic 6800NU 128 meg at stock..

I am sure I could get over that by pushing the card a little bit more and getting some better cooling. Also that is with programs running in the background. Usually when I do benchmarks its with using ctl/alt/del and shutting down everything that is not absolutely needed.
For the price I would definitly say its well worth it. I may even sell my GT on ebay, seeing as they are going for more than I paid for it, and keep this one, or just keep this one for my backup rig although its a little more advanced than need be for my backup.

Final Benchmarks after much tweaking
3Dmark2001SE: 21,009
3Dmark2003: 11,662
3Dmark2005: 5,097
Aquamark3: 64,333
Again, with the proper cooling and overclocking this could be much higher. I could have gone through a little more and at least put some AS5 on the cooler but I just wanted to give you a basic idea of what could be done, and to see if it was worth what I paid for it. I could also have bumped scores by doing some thinkgs to the system, but again I just wanted to give a general idea of what can be done and how much bang for each buck I actually got for this card. All and all I am very pleased, I definitly got my money and then some worth out of this card.
If you guys have any more questions please let me know. I tried to run all of the modern day benchmarks to give a broader idea of the card.
thise are amazing results for a 229.00 card ,,No way there is a better value in a video card then this one..Ya almost need 2 6600GT to keep up with it LMAO..

Never fails, I do lots of reseach on the forums, figure out the best bang for the buck is the 6600GT, buy it, then 2 weeks later this DEAL comes around.
Thanks guys.

is it possible to unlock the pipes and shaders of a 6600gt?...if so then I would do that and overclock the poop outa it and be happy :)
No. The 6600GT uses a different core than the 6800 series, there is nothing hidden to unlock. ;)

on the site it says its ddr so I am preaty sure its ddr and not gddr3 :(
You are correct sir! Look at the very bottom of this page from the nVidia web site.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce6_techspecs.html
"6. GDDR3: GeForce 6800 Ultra, 6800 GT, and 6600 GT only."
**EDIT**[/COLOR]
If anyone gets this PLEASE post your results ASAP....if it can be modded into having 16pipes and 6 shaders then that would rock!....seeing as it does have 256 megs of 256bit ram; this would be better then a 6800 by alot and hella cheaper!
All 6800 series cards are 256 bit. ;)

Ok guys I have been sucked in to the thread now. I need a new card and was about to buy a 6600GT. Now I am having second thoughts about it. Would it be worth getting this 6800 or paying $30 more and getting a NU? Lol help out a man in need.
This card looks pretty darn good..

With a limited mobo I have pushed this one pretty far. There is a guy at the other overclockers forums that got his to 434/933 with the stock cooler. Pound for pound its a heck of a card. I just went ahead and ordered a Silencer 5 for it, I am also debating ordering a P4C800-C Deluxe and getting away from this ECS. I really think that those two things, mobo and cooling, are holding this card back. Realistically I think I can push 450/1000 with the right setup.

wouldnt ddr at 1000mhz be better then gddr3 at 1000mhz?

I don't think it exist YET!, OCZ just released some DDR I that can hit 772? at cas 3, 4,4.
DDR is not dead yet, just being reworked for its last stand in 2005-06

I am talking about video card memory

See how people are getting 933....so my question is: Say if rlemieux actually does hit 450/1000 then wouldnt his 6800LE running at 1000mhz beat a 6800gt with gddr3 running at 1000, since ddr has much tighter timings which intern means greater bandwith?

I have heard several people say this, but I am not familiar enough with it to know if its just speculation or if it is indeed fact.

Ok guys got my card in today. With the old drivers and no unlocking, the card gets 7051 in 3dmark03. Not too bad but I hope it unlocks. Will keep you posted. I am going to install the new drivers and unlock the vertex shader first. I am taking it slow so that I can see where this card might crap out on me. Should keep you all happy for a little bit :)

Scores jumped to 7212 with new drivers and the 6th vertex shader unlocked. Now to unlock the pipes

Ok good news, bad news. Good news is that I finnally got 12 pipes unlocked. Bad news is that I have major problems with starting windows when all 16 are unlocked :(. I will keep messing with it and hope for the best. Right now I am running 3dmark03 with the new unlocked pipes to make sure they are working. Funny thing is that the first locked set were the ones causing the problems. I had to disable 0 and enable 2. Everyone cross fingers :)
