To be quite honest... Im not exactly sure.. I think that that folder is used to place program installs and what-not there for the install... I know that I go in and delete everything every so often just for a clean up and its never caused me any problems...

Just what it says its a temp holding area for dif things. Like when you add a program and what not,I delete everything in my temp/internet temp/recent and history folders each day. Sometimes things you download will go there but should go to internet temp so unless you know you dl'ed something you want to keep clean that puppy out and save the space. If you dont clean them out at times these two folders can get blotted quite fast.

You can right click on the drive in My Computer and select properties. Then click on the Disk Clean Up button, usualy on the General Tab. this gives you the option to clean up the temporary files and such like off the computer.
