Is there a way (In Windows, I havn't made the transition to Linux yet) to have 2 sound cards, without any conflicts?
I'd like to have one soundcard I can use specifically for playing MP3's, and the other would be for pretty much everything else. (So I would be able to listen to MP3's while playing games, without sacraficing the game's sound).
I don't think it's possible, but I don't know everything (yet).

it's possible to have 2 soundcards in windows but i don't know if it's possible to tell the programs which soundcard to play to
Some sound cards can play multiple audio streams, The soundblaster live can play a games audio and mp3's at the same time. Also in WinME, the WDM drivers aloud me to do this with my AWE64 which is the only thing I miss about ME.

Well well now! I guess I'll be purchasing a Sound Blaster Live! X-Gamer.
I have a SB X-Gamer 5.1 and love it. I've heard others knock them. All I know is that it's been good to me. Very crisp clear sound with no background hiss like some cards seem to have. You can run surround sound speakers or a true 5.1 home entertainment system. I have 4 speakers and a sub connected in right now and it rocks.
You could have two, but what for? I have an old SBLive, and it will happily play mp3s while I play Q3, so I hear the game sound and the music as well. Or play off the Line-in during games, it all works fine. Make sure the sources you want to hear are enabled and are turned up in Volume Control, and you'll be fine.
